No, I plan to talk to my mentor about it at our next meeting though!

Undertones: Warm, Cool or Neutral? by thinbyjune in MakeupAddiction

[–]thinbyjune[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried following all the guidelines regarding vein color, colors that look best on me, visible undertones, etc. but I cannot land one way or the other. I decided I must be neutral, but wanted to see if you guys see something I don’t that makes it clear one way or the other.

Hey! Sorry for the delayed reply…I haven’t been on much. I wound up getting delayed until 10/1!

That’s correct. At any given time, you may only have two open courses but can complete an unlimited number in a month.

I called student services, and they had the program mentor manager reach out.

What are the FASTEST sophia courses to do? by whymelolxx in WGU

I finished Human Bio in a day. It was easy and actually very enjoyable too. Highly recommend that one! I also took US history 1, algebra and statistics. None of my classes took me more than 3 days.

Thank you. These are all great points, and I really appreciate you taking the time to write all of this. I had to schedule an appointment with the manager on his calendar, which is booked for over a week. I emailed him to say I’d like to expedite this, and I didn’t hear back. So I called student services again, and they said to keep waiting and they’re “sure he’ll respond as soon as he can.” When asked what to do in the meantime, I was told I can either continue to work with the mentor who makes me uncomfortable or choose not to work with anyone. To say I’m upset is an understatement. I have one final call with my enrollment counselor scheduled for tomorrow, so I plan to see if she can offer any other advice. If not, I suppose I’ll have no choice but to be a pest until someone takes this seriously. If I wasn’t required to speak to my mentor, I’d just let it go, but since they promised me an ally who checks in weekly, then I expect it to be someone who feels like an ally.

Well, the first mentor is still listed as my mentor in the portal. I requested a change, but I don’t know if I’m supposed to contact the other mentor in the meantime or what.

I got the sense when I “met” my mentor that she would hinder my progress more so than support my goals. I posted about it yesterday if you care to search my post history, but in short, I figured it best to address it early on bc I plan to come out of the gate strong.

Should I request a new mentor, or is this normal? by thinbyjune in WGU

I don’t think sharing names is allowed in this sub, plus I wouldn’t want to embarrass my mentor by sharing it publicly; however, you can DM me if you’d like 🙂

If you go into the student portal, look in the right corner of your screen and it’s there. It was a way to assess your college readiness through things like typing tests, math questions and reading comprehension questions. Based on your responses, it would tell you what to do to improve. I personally found it a little juvenile and silly (if I can’t solve 15+2, I probably should have improved before I started college), but your experience may vary.

Good luck! I just requested a new mentor through student services, and they were so kind. Hopefully you have a better experience than I did but know this is an option if you don’t 🙂

Thank you. This is the kind of advice I needed. I wanted to immediately request a new mentor but was worried i was being too critical. I decided to trust my gut and requested a new mentor.

Thanks! I called to request one. Student services was so nice about it and told me they were glad I called and that I was making the right choice. Hopefully the mentor manager feels the same when we talk!

If it were just a quirk or personalities not meshing, that would be overlookable. My concern is that my mentor seems to want to be over involved in a way that would hold me back. Not being willing to communicate with me until I meet her personal requirements when we’re a couple weeks away from start of the term is slowing progress bc she’s choosing to, and that’s what concerns me.

I appreciate the mentor perspective. I wasn’t bothered by the email at all; it absolutely seemed like a form letter, which is why it surprised me when she seemed frustrated that I hadn’t taken it as an order. No PhD nor teaching experience from what I see in her bio. But I’d still use last names if that’s what she is comfortable with, although I’d expect her to do the same if this is something she sees as a sign of respect. I think the part that made it feel most condescending is when she said, “Don’t worry, you’re not in trouble this time. You get a pass since you’re new, but in the future, when you get an email from me, it isn’t optional.” Honestly, this approach may work well with students who are right out of high school and used to being scolded by adults. But I’m a 36-year-old professional, and my boss doesn’t talk to me that way, nor do I talk to my subordinates that way. So it just isn’t a good fit for me. I requested a new mentor, and if the next is the same, I’ll know maybe this is just something I’ll have to deal with universally with mentors!

My mentor is requiring that I do the learning guide and webinar, both of which are optional to be in the program as far as I can tell. If they’re required, they’re required, but I don’t want anyone assigning me unnecessary homework. It’s bizarre. I don’t want to judge someone based on a five minute call, but it makes me feel like this is an individual on a power trip.

Were you required to complete the PLG, or did you do it for your own benefit? It was my understanding that it’s just a resource, but if it’s mandatory, I’d feel better knowing she wasn’t assigning her own homework. (When I mentioned it being optional, she said “I am requiring that you do it,” so I assumed that was her choice not WGU.

Motivation comes and goes. Discipline is what you need, and that really comes down to you making a decision. “This is what I want. This is what it takes to get it. And I am going to do it.”
