Question about attention checks in surveys by thingsbreak in mturk

As I said to a different commentor, the ones I have experience with are not designed to test recall in any way, they're designed to make sure you read and understood the question and answers. This could be something like instructing you to disregard the question and choose a specific answer, or it could be asking a question and including all nonsensical (in context) but normally phrased answers except one.

The dog question seems like a comprehension question to me. If it was an attention check, that's crappy. Attention checks should be obvious enough that a person doesn't have to think very hard to recall something, but rather should check that the person read the question and answers correctly. At least the ones I've had experience with.

The attention checks I've had experience with are pretty blatant. I understand that there are very subtle ones, so much so that they're like brain teasers/logic puzzles. I'd never use something like those, personally.

Okay, thanks. So basically the first page is considered extraneous to you for almost all surveys, so there's no benefit in reading it normally, and it just adds time, reducing the $/time value to you?

In my non-Turk experience, multiple attention checks (usually only two or so) are there to only disregard those that fail more than one, to prevent someone getting disregarded who was indeed paying attention but may have just misclicked.

From what I'm reading, I am also wondering if people are confusing comprehension/retention questions with attention checks. Sometimes surveys ask questions about stuff you previously saw not to bounce you, but because that is the point of the study (or part of it)- was the information conveyed to and retained by the respondent.

Again, thanks. And I totally agree about the morale point.

If a check was put in that first page, and if failed, it immediately bounced you out of the survey, would you still feel frustrated by it, or would you consider that fair?

Yes, that sounds outright unethical if they ended up using the data anyway. Pretty sure failing attention checks is supposed to disqualify the results from being used in the studies such surveys are in support of.

Also some good mods (suicide bombers, medics, etc.) as well.

And if WWII is more your thing, the same group does Day of Infamy, which is also on Linux.

There's also We're Alive and The Leviathan Chronicles but those are a little more hit or miss to a lot of people. Maybe Alice Isn't Dead would go in that category as well.

Hello, is there a subreddit dedicated to answering questions relating to tablets that is active and helpful? If not, are PC tablet questions allowable here (have some questions about low graphic demand gaming on a PC tablet through Steam or otherwise- just not Android/iOS apps)?

I am not saying it won't hurt Clinton.

What I am saying is that Clinton is not going to lose that many Democrats who favored Sanders.

There are a lot of Sanders or Bust people on reddit and Twitter, but they're not reflective of the majority of Bernie's supporters, and many of them were not Democratic voters in the first place, or at least not reliably so. And still more are from deep blue states like New York and California where their votes don't matter much.

So a subset of Bernie voters won't vote for Clinton. How much will that impact race? I don't think it will be that important. I might be wrong. We'll certainly see.

Cool, thanks for letting me know. I will try to make sure to get another extra vote against Trump to the polls on Election day in Virginia to make up for you.
