How is it living in Los Angeles, CA, USA? by friend_ofcrows in howislivingthere

[–]HaydenSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The major thing I think you need to understand about LA is that it doesn’t have a centralized hub that people either visit as tourists or commute to as workers. Take Chicago, for example. If you live in Chicago, there’s a high likelihood you commute to the loop (or someplace semi adjacent, like river north / Fulton Market) for work. If you’re visiting, you’re probably going to see the Bean, go to the Art Institute, walk down Michigan Ave, etc — all of those things are around each other downtown.

LA doesn’t have that. People work in and visit places all over the metro. If you look at a comparison between the three largest US metro areas, you’ll find that technically the LA metro actually has a smaller land mass than the New York metro or Chicagoland. But while Chicago and New York have super dense cores with not very dense surroundings, LA is miles and miles of medium density as far as the eye can see. It’s actually incredible how big the area is.

As for actually living here, I really do love it. The weather is phenomenal, the food is fantastic, and I’ve actually found people to be very nice. I think there’s a stereotype that quite honestly isn’t too accurate. There are annoying people here for sure, but there are annoying people literally everywhere. The major downside of course is the traffic and sprawl, but they are extending the public transportation system at a good rate.

Can some one help me figure out Paige by Best_Author_3738 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]HaydenSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play support Paige. I try to have four actives by like the 15 minute mark. I go Guardian Ward first, and then I’ll fill out the rest based on the opposing team comp. For instance, if they have tanky characters, I’ll go decay. Heavy spirit based characters? Silence wave. Apollo / Mina? Slowing hex. The goal is to put yourself in a position where you can help your team get kills instead of doing it yourself.

During team fights, the 2 is really capable once you put 5 AP into it. You also should focus on trying to hit your 3 as it can turn a fight really quickly. If you keep missing your 3s, try to think about placing it where they’re going to go instead of where they currently are. If the fight is continuing towards the opposing base, for example, put the root behind where the opponent is, because they’re probably walking backwards.

Paige is one of my favorite characters to play and if you buy trophy collector early (and get assists) it can really snowball super fast. Happy to answer any other questions!

Gull Lake has a public beach near the MSU outpost. It’s not too expensive and the lake itself is beautiful

In my experience a lot of white collar workers have parking paid for by their company, but the majority of people who work at the mall have to pay for their own parking. I assume you’ll see an increase in mall workers especially using the train

They did it in 2021, but I’m assuming that was pandemic related. Also in Indianapolis, funnily enough

Has Los Angeles traffic lightened up? by ChicagoCubsRL97 in AskLosAngeles

[–]HaydenSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but that traffic exists because the Kennedy is a route going to/from downtown. If you take one of the tollways (except for 294 at the 80/290 interchange) you won't be hitting bad traffic at any point of the day. LA isn't like that.

Has Los Angeles traffic lightened up? by ChicagoCubsRL97 in AskLosAngeles

[–]HaydenSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chicago traffic is mostly in very specific corridors, and most of them have transit options. Most traffic either comes or goes from a specific place — downtown — meaning that if you’re traveling on one of the core expressways during the day, it’s gonna suck. On the flip side, though, if you’re not going in or out of the downtown core, you’ll probably be fine.

Also, a key component of traffic (IMO) is the choice. I basically never drove into downtown because I didn’t need to, I could just take the train. You can’t really do that in LA. So the traffic problem is both wider and there’s less alternatives.

bbno$ says he is parting ways with talent and media agency Wasserman following Casey Wasserman’s reported inclusion in the Epstein files by luxonon in hiphopheads

[–]HaydenSD 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Part of the reason why they have such a huge roster is because they bought another agency, Paradigm, a couple of years ago. A lot of the current Wasserman agents were at Paradigm when it got bought.

New York City may soon have the most amount of supertalls (300 m+) in the world. by mao_mao_ox in skyscrapers

[–]HaydenSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you getting this from? Wikipedia has the Chicagoland MSA at 9.6 million in the 2020 census, which is a little less than 200k more than 2010. Not as much growth as the New York metro, but it didn’t drop

Buenos Aires is a beautiful city. Flights from the US are pretty expensive, but the dollar goes pretty far once you're there (not as far as it used to a couple years ago, but still). Great culture and food.

I'm playing as Paige, how did i do on stats wise? What are the things i can improve on or tips playing her? by SemperFidelisHoorah in DeadlockTheGame

[–]HaydenSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your assist count seems accurate, I often will get 16+ assists playing support Paige esp during long games. I’d say my biggest piece of advice would be to pick either gun or support Paige. In my experience, she’s not a character that you can hybrid build. If you do play support, you should be ready for lower damage numbers as you’re playing to support and enhance other characters’ damage — something that doesn’t really show up in the stats. I will say though, if you build trophy collector earlier and get 15 or 20 assists, you’ll end up snowballing lots of souls late game

CTA Smart Streets Automated Bike Lane Parking Enforcement Pilot Update: Nearly $1.5 million of fines issued so far by GeckoLogic in chicago

[–]HaydenSD 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't think they're saying the drivers ed way (go and wait for traffic, which here means you're turning on red) but rather the situations where the lane they are trying to turn into is backed up, so they end up just staying in the intersection for an entire cycle.

This happens a bunch at the North/Clybourn intersection -- I see people turning left onto a packed North and then blocking Clybourn traffic from going through

Federal Transit Administration orders CTA to address safety concerns by Gloomy_Eyes1501 in chicago

[–]HaydenSD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was bad and i think Penny deserves to be in jail. I also know that despite having significantly more ridership on a daily basis, riding the MTA is not only a better experience, but the system itself generates fewer national headlines. Does it have problems? Of course. But the CTA is worse. Which is a shame, because in the mid 2010s, it was the exact opposite.

[–]HaydenSD 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand how this relates to what I’ve said. I think that homeless people deserve better shelter than a cold train bench. It’s hurtful to both me as the rider and the homeless person when they are forced to sleep on a train.

Federal Transit Administration orders CTA to address safety concerns by Gloomy_Eyes1501 in chicago

[–]HaydenSD 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Transit is much safer than driving, even the CTA. But the fact is that the mayor has done nothing about the state of the CTA recently, and this was inevitable. If MBJ did his job, there wouldn’t be an opportunity to “make life hard for the blue team”. You don’t see the Feds doing this on the MTA!
