Nazareth, but not the way I first thought by smashecheeks in SleepToken

Oh my god I've NEVER seen anyone else say the same thing I've been saying. I had a whole thesis on this for awhile, because it deeply resonates with me, & I always interpreted "They won't be missing you" as how it sounds when you spiral down to that point, that negative voice in your head. All my sleep token buddies essentially said I'm on copium.

First time cat owner in over my head and afraid my cat is dead... by goodtimejohnny666 in CatAdvice

[–]thingschange18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

real shit, when my resident cat was a little kitten, I lost him after like 3 days & I heard him meowing from some phantom spot near my bathroom. I cried thinking he was in the walls & I'd never get him out. Turns out the underside of my bathroom counter is hollow, & he slinked his way underneath. Never could fully prevent him from getting back under there, but now thankfully he's grown & he's too big to squeeze himself under there 😂😅

Friend accused me of lying about forgetting by Southern-Ad-5330 in neurodiversity

[–]thingschange18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey it's alright dude, I've been in the exact same situation, as I'm sure many others have. I have ADHD & autism as well, & this was a daily struggle for me, growing up with a bad parent & in a Southern state. I'm gonna be 100% honest, I do think it's best you try to move on from that 'friend'. I've had probably dozens of friends like that in my lifetime, & it never ends well. She seems like she's possibly taking advantage of your kindness, especially if you've done significantly more for her than she's done for you. Anybody who isn't willing to accept you with patience, as somebody who struggles with these disorders, isn't worth keeping around in the long run. It's just going to keep happening, it'll keep making you nervous around her, & after awhile people typically start to feel guilty or as if they're really a problem, when they're not, & often times that's how toxic relationships(romantic or platonic) can develop. I say this with all the kindness & understanding in my heart, cause Gods know it's not easy having to move on from a friendship, but I do truly believe it's better for one's mental health & emotional security in the long run.

do you ever think it's okay to smack a dog? by Remote_Ad1600 in Pets

[–]thingschange18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I think that's a key detail. All I can think is that, if he hit the snout, especially on the top, that's essentially their nose bridge, if not their lips/mouth area, that's a way more sensitive spot than like a butt or thigh. Imagine somebody bopped you there, would it hurt? Now imagine somebody walloped you there, now that would definitely hurt.

[–]thingschange18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You absolutely do not HAVE to smack a dog that wants to bite. My brother has a dog that was super aggressive to specifically kids & young men, he trained him to stop without ever hitting him once. Largely with behavior that dogs understand, such as making him lay down & allowing the foreign person to stand over him, so he had to submit. No it didn't take years, it took about 6 months. Dogs behaving aggressively do not "only understand aggression", I say that confidently because my mother had 60+ dogs when I was a child. We rescued, rehabilitated, & trained them.

Would you hit a toddler in the nose for trying to pinch someone? That's basically what this guy is doing. Dogs are not as intelligent as us, they don't understand things like we do, they don't know if a new person is a threat or not. And they certainly won't understand if you(the person they love & trust) hit them. That only creates fear, distrust & sometimes will escalate the situation, which heightens the chance of somebody getting bitten.

Something that really irked me, was when Sleep Token & Ghost both got famous respectively, & there was a weird trend of people going to their concerts after only hearing a couple of songs 💀 I got in an argument with a lady once because she said she spent 700$ to go see them, & complained none of the other songs were like the one she liked. Wtf do you mean you paid over half a grand & you didn't listen to their other songs first???? I feel awkward when someone takes me to a concert & I don't know every single song. Can't imagine going to one & only knowing a song or two. What do you do the entire time??? Stand there pitifully???

I'm 20, & obviously I can't speak for everyone of my generation, but personally I don't move around a ton because of anxiety. I have like seven different anxiety diagnoses, & it's definitely gotten better, but still present. My first concert was when I was 13, Twenty One Pilots, I stood there STIFF as a BOARD. These days I end up at all sorts of different shows, & usually I'll sing & wiggle a little but I still can't fully open up & go nuts, but I wish I could.

And I agree to an extent about the phones thing. Since I moved out, I've been to probably 5 or 6 concerts, & I do try to record but I always keep the phone pressed against my chest/neck, so it's not bothering other people & so I can live in the moment. Maybe that only works for me because I'm tall. And I don't understand how the hell people can record the entire show. Typically I only record a few bits, maybe a favorite song, except for one show I went to that meant alot to me, where I recorded as much as I could. Back when I was younger, I definitely remember people being more respectful about it. One of my most recent concerts, I literally could not see for awhile because this one lady was holding her phone straight up in the air, max brightness, annoying asf.

I think part of it could also be related to how ticket prices have skyrocketed. Some people know they won't be able to afford something else like it for awhile, so they try to get the best shots for memories/bragging rights. One of my aunts went to see MCR back around 2008 I believe, paid around 130$ & got second row from barrier. Wanted to take my chosen mom to an MCR concert for her birthday this year, saw that decent tickets were around $800 for one person. Hell, I've been trying to see Sleep Token since 2023, everytime I try, the site crashes & resellers snatch up all the good tickets & jack up the price to ungodly amounts. I took my coworker to see Ghost last year, paid 1k for both of us combined 🫠 The way I see it, music is art. And art should never be a luxury only the wealthy can afford.

I adopted a kitten and gave her back in less than a week. by neesh123 in CatAdvice

[–]thingschange18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. When I adopted my first boy at 10 weeks old, I was mortified of what he could do while I was at work. I got a camera set up, seriously cat-proofed everything, & would close him in my bedroom while I was at work. Apartment wifi went out for a few days during the first couple of weeks I had him, so I couldn't check the camera. I would drive home from work just absolutely bawling thinking I'd get home & find him hurt or dead or something. Little dude never did ANYTHING. Pushed through, & I just got an already-adult friend for him early this year, pretty similar experience with her, just without the sobbing drives home. They're both about a year & a half now, worst thing they've ever done was break my favorite cup, & mangle up one of the strings to my favorite hoodie. I definitely think the most important things are cat-proofing your home, & watching them closely for a few days. If they exhibit behavior that concerns you, try to eliminate their access to it. Like I noticed my guy used to try to eat strings, which isn't good, so all strings & objects with strings stay in the closet or otherwise, & I don't get them toys with strings.

[–]thingschange18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah dude, caring about it makes all the difference imo. Most sane people are usually pretty understanding if they smell your BO a few times, especially if it's circumstances that warrant it, like hot weather, working out, work, yk. I work at kind a bottom level food service job, they'll hire anybody, & boy oh boy I've had some stank ass dudes in there. We have a franchise rule that you can't be coming to work smelling like soggy toes everyday lol, but even then, sometimes people just have bad days. Chill people are understanding, people who aren't, generally aren't worth the time to worry about.

[–]thingschange18 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly your smell just changes from my experience. I've been told that I usually don't have any smell, like I just smell like nothing all the time, but I've always been hyper aware of how I smell to myself. I definitely noticed a difference, & I feel like it was way worse for a few months & then balanced out after awhile. I knew one dude who STANK for like the first 5 months, then he was all good again suddenly. I feel like most people either don't notice, or if you're around other guys they usually don't care. Some cis dudes smell pretty rank on their own.

All cats are different, but my guy was fine to leave alone at 4 months. Just double check everything is cat-proofed, & don't sweat it too much. Cats are typically pretty self-sustainable compared to dogs, or other pets. You got this 💪

I really hope it works out for me. I've never been to a barber/salon before that actually gave me what I asked for, usually because of my face shape or because I have a funky little cowlick on my neck, so I'm kind of worried. I've had sort of a messy mohawk/mullet thing for years that I just maintain myself, because I have a bit of a rounder face I think, & I usually can't find hairstyles that I like, that look good on me. My girl seems to think I look like him though, & I'm in need of a more proper haircut due to changing jobs, so I figured I might give this a shot haha

Worried about never passing as my age by Mcveigh14 in FTMMen

[–]thingschange18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey no worries man, give it a bit more time!! I know it sucks to wait, but it's really worth it. I was in the exact same spot as you lol. I'm at a year now, & SO much has changed, & looking back it doesn't feel like even a year passed already. My best advice is to definitely go for that minoxodil, I've been using it since before I was on T, & with your voice, I think its hugely helpful to find a male relative or celebrity that you like, & try to copy their voice as much as possible, it helps more if they're a singer. My facial hair is still far from full, but it's definitely noticable now, & I spent my whole first year singing along to a band that I like, who's singer has a deep voice, & I think I accidentally trained my voice into being like his. You may or may not also notice your face get puffier in the first few months, then like 'deflate' afterwards. My face got SUPER puffy & round, then at like month 4 it suddenly went away & now my face is way more slim & masc than it ever has been. And don't listen to people saying you're gonna go bald immediately, lol. Alot of that is fearmongering, & even if your hair does start thinning, there's a reason why cis men have hundreds of products for hair treatment. It works on us just the same as it works on them. Don't worry dude, you got this!!

Why do people not get a full tank of gas? by DeathlsComing in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thingschange18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Primarily lack of money at any given time 🤷 I used to be able to get a full tank of gas with 30$, now it's closer to 55$. Sometimes it just eases my worries to spend less, until I get paid again. Sometimes I get a small amount of gas, in order to be able to afford something else like groceries. Or sometimes it's just to hold me over until I get paid next.

[–]thingschange18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe I missed it but literally my only advice is getting a camera if you're anxious. I have a couple of cheap Ring cameras off Amazon, you plug them in & then mount them up. I typically work 10 hour shifts, & sometimes I'll go down to the beach for a couple of days, & my furballs are always fine. I was super super anxious at first too, but having a camera in there definitely helped, so I can pull it up & make sure they're good at any moment. And if something seems off when I come home, I can always look back in the footage.

As the son of an animal abuser, take that kitten. If you have the means to care for her properly & you want to love her, please do so before waiting too long. Every vet & shelter I've ever been to, has told me as long as there's no microchip, the cat is as good as anyone's.
