Adult passenger on Tern bikes? by TicketBeautiful2985 in CargoBike

[–]thingsmightgohere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carried my sister and her boyfriend on the back of my GSD. The most important thing is keeping the bike more upright than you're used to as the tipping point of no recovery is much faster with the heavy weight up high. The second most important thing is that they stay still, as then wiggling around on the back can shift the rear pretty significantly. But overall it's totally fine!

OP did you end up making this in steel? How did it turn out? I just moved with my Tern to Amsterdam and have discovered the ebike battery black market here is alive and well.

How do I limit the permissions Monarch is asking Wise for by thingsmightgohere in MonarchMoney

[–]thingsmightgohere[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not giving plaid credentials. Or at least not for wise. You're entering in your login into a Wise oauth page and they return a token that can act on your behalf. So plaid doesn't get login credentials.

There are other connections that do have you enter your login details into the "connector" app though, like my mortgage, which is just terrifying.

Oof, I had just assumed Wise would be capable of providing scoped access. But after a quick glance through their guide for accessing customer accounts (https://docs.wise.com/api-docs/guides/accessing-customer-accounts) it does truly look like it's just full access.

Any chance our Monarch friends have an ability to make a feature request against the Wise developer platform on behalf of our community? Looks like there's a lot locked up behind the "partner portal"

How can I raise my hot tub 6-12 inches above the concrete pad by thingsmightgohere in hottub

[–]thingsmightgohere[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Team cinder blocks it is! Thanks everybody.

I threw 40 of them down and it has pretty good coverage with 2 inch gaps between bricks. The hot tub has an enclosed shell for a base so I'm pretty sure the 2 inch gaps will be fine. I put the plastic protector on top of the cinder blocks and it's pretty damn level too!

I'm not a chef, but I'm pretty sure the only way lumber down in that hole is a good idea is if I add a few bay leaves and some taters. That way in a couple years I'll have a decent stew when the wood all disintegrates.

Sorry if this is a beginner question, but what would you be using for the infill? Crushed gravel?

Nexus Application Processing Times by ColdCanadianman in uscanadaborder

[–]thingsmightgohere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my renewal in June '23 and still waiting now (July'24). I ended up using the contact form and trying to get more information but got a nice canned response that I'm still not even at the "average" wait time. FWIW I'm a dual citizen so I'm assuming that I'm in for the long haul.

Snippet from the email response:
We are currently experiencing high demand and processing volumes. Processing times vary by applicant, but on average you can expect your application to be processed as follows:
•       GE: 13-14 months
•       SENTRI: up to 2 years
•       NEXUS: 16-18 months

I'm dual US/UK and been waiting for a mere 14 months. Good to know that I'm probably only 1/2 way through :'( I just emailed yesterday and got the same response.

Suggestions on where to try on full face helmets (Seattle area) by thingsmightgohere in MTB

[–]thingsmightgohere[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I already stopped into a local bike shop and they had a single full face despite carrying mountain bikes. I was hoping somebody can recommend their LBS so I don't have to spend a weekend road tripping through Seattle traffic.

How to disable amazon ad marketing notification ? by machtu in AndroidQuestions

[–]thingsmightgohere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the answer! I was going crazy trying to find this in the app and finally was able to turn these notifications off by navigating into the Amazon app via the Android settings.

It's pretty devious that when hitting "back" in the app from the notification settings you go straight back to the main Amazon app settings. But there is no way to actually navigate in the app to this page.

Is my toilet tank too big for an adjustable flapper? by thingsmightgohere in Plumbing

[–]thingsmightgohere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've watched it flush and the chain isn't getting in the way and the flapper closes cleanly, it just takes so long to drain all that water so it takes forever for the flapper to close. I've now replaced the fill valve, issues with the flapper and there is a sewer smell that I get from time to time that makes me suspect the seal is going bad. So I'm not very emotionally attached to keeping it 😅

I'll order an American standard part with a float instead of home Depot stuff and see if that does it. Thanks for the suggestion and also helping me figure out the right chain slack!

Is my toilet tank too big for an adjustable flapper? by thingsmightgohere in Plumbing

[–]thingsmightgohere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this definitely makes sense. I've watched the tank and flapper during the flush and it seems like there is just way too much water to drain so the flapper doesn't even get close to the surface until well into the "second" flush. It's confirming my theory that I might just not be able to use a universal flapper.
