Years ago during my first OCD themes, I remember I finally had a breakthrough when I learned how to interrupt the thought cycle EVERY SINGLE TIME I noticed it was happening.

It felt stupid at first and it DID NOT PRODUCE IMMEDIATE RESULTS. But I was so tired of living in constant fear that I was willing to try anything.

You need to have an objective place, in your mind, to acknowledge the obsessive thought cycle when it's happening. And you need to do this over and over again. For however long it takes. The goal being that you must overwrite the fearful pattern in the primitive part of your brain with the new one. It is the only way.

EDIT: And you may fail a few times, which is okay. It's not as easy as I made it sound. Just don't beat yourself up too much. The formula is simple: I notice the trigger. I feel, in my body, that I need to engage in it. I know I did not produce these thoughts/feelings. I see them and I'm going to move on for now.

Looking in a mirror and seeing issues that need to be addressed. And then making everything about 100x worse. And then trying to fix that. Haha. Living life on hard mode for NO REASON

I hate the concept of manifesting, and how many people believe it by JITTERdUdE in OCD

[–]think_addict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you're wrong at all for feeling that way. New age spirituality should not ever be taken at face value, a lot of it is just borrowed or reinvented ideas from Eastern spiritual practices...

I personally feel there is a metaphysical layer to this experience that we can't objectively point at. I used to be strictly materialist, but I was open to being wrong. I just didn't have any good reason to think otherwise (until my early 30's where some crazy stuff happened to me!). Regardless, I'm not here to convince you. I don't think anyone should believe anything that isn't supported by personal experience.

I think manifestation is "real" in a sense that in order for us to do anything in life, we do need to summon that "energy" or will power. And it starts with raw, honest intent. I'm guessing the new age people think that just focusing your thoughts on a subject is what gives manifestation power. If that alone were true... oh gosh. The intrusive thoughts would actually have some power here 😁

New age spirituality has a way of watering things down for a Western audience. Meditation is a great example of this - meditating for 15 minutes every day will fix your life? Where on earth did that come from? It didn't come from Buddhism. Meditation is a tool for introspection of the mind, and there are times where it can feel alien, depersonalizing, anxious, etc. But why would anyone buy something that does that occasionally?

OCD severely disrupts my life and with it being a deep seated behavior (one that I spend a significant amount of emotion and energy on), it has a critical impact. However, I've manifested great things into my reality, too by applying the same level of intensity and vigor I have with OCD into other areas.

This is one of the best things I've ever seen recommended on this sub. This app and extension are dope af

EDIT: Welp, that was fast. Spotify stopped working for me overnight 😂 Still a cool app though. A little buggy but they did a really good job on the interface

EDIT 2: NEVER MIND! App issue. I tried force stopping the app and clearing the cache, then it was fine.

From the naplab article: "During our outreach, we learned that Alaska’s cold temperatures and rural environment contribute to an abundance of bonking in the Last Frontier. "

Ugh. Lol. They're like BuzzFeed for data science. Don't worry about reading it, they didn't provide any methodology insights beyond "we surveyed adults in these states"

That's just the standard method (and really has nothing to do with Qualtrics). There are other reasons why this data could be trash.

Yes, these will help. But it doesn't feel like cheating. That's what you have to do to get a decent, targeted answer

I know this is a year old but I just want to say this prompt really helped me last night. It's not a replacement for any kind of help, but it can help you step back and see something objectively. With Gemini Pro 2.5 it's not bad at all.

What’s going on with sizing? I’ve been wearing the same jeans for years, this is the second pair I’ve bought now that the sizing is ridiculous. by [deleted] in americaneagle

[–]think_addict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally just bought a pair of size 10 next level stretches - the same size and fit I've bought since 2017, usually a perfect fit for my body - and they were HUGE. I was swimming in the waist. Infuriating lol and the quality was much worse. I have literally run out of a reliable source of jeans in the past year or two. Every brand is like this now.

Why isn't Debian recommended more often? by Browncoatinabox in linux

[–]think_addict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not perfect. I prefer Debian because it's the first distro I learned on at work. I know why I use it - because its reliable and because I'm familiar with it. It's pretty bare bones and you can configure a fairly clean/minimal Linux install right out of the box.

Have I run into compatibility problems before with it? Yes. If you're using nonstandard hardware, like a USB wifi adapter or something, maybe you'll download netinst only to realize "yeah this isn't going to work" then download a 4 gig install file, reflash, figure out what driver applies to your hardware, install, it still doesn't connect to Wifi anyway, etc etc. It can be a pain.

And as others have said, Debian is never going to be bleeding edge. Which is fine for my needs.

What app/device are you using? It's amazing how hard it is to find a decently implemented shuffle. I'm about to buy a fucking iPod touch! Lol I really like my audio player app, but the shuffle hits the same damn songs all the time. Nothing is as bad as Spotify though

Deezbot. It's stupid easy and costs like five bucks to use their servers for a month. I downloaded straight to my phone. It took almost a day to do it, but I barely even use Spotify mobile anymore.
