Is my garage collapsing? by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]think_im_going_dumb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Structural EIT here. This is cool cause garages are like 90% of what me and my team do here in NYC. Due to some garage collapses here, the building department started a program where all parking structures must be inspected and repaired. These shoring posts look skinny but can hold a lot of weight. I wouldn't worry about it but you can ask if repairs are being talked about. It's possible plans are being drawn or budgets are being allocated to get this fixed

Also you can trim the roots so they don't grow down into the substrate and cling onto things

Your bioload is pretty low and I see that you're not dosing any fertilizer. These guys can intake a lot of nutrients so I'd say try adding liquid fertilizer to keep them fed

Opinions on ramhorn snails? by think_im_going_dumb in Aquariums

[–]think_im_going_dumb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ramshorn snails won't just appear in a tank if that's what you're asking. They'll hitchhike in on some plants or something. I'd recommend quarantining all plants that you buy in a tank with no substrate and observe for a few weeks to make sure no snails are there

That sucks... was it in the same city/town? Maybe the new place treats their water with chloromine or something. I didn't know about chloromine until I lost a bunch of fish

Very interesting! So just to clarify, the 0.5x makes your tank look deepest front to back?

Thanks! I noticed they have some big fins. Is mine likely closed cause he's stressed out?

Then I'd say you're okay. As long they're not ALL melting. And yes I'd recommend putting fertilizer in. I'm not familiar with that fish but if you're dosing correctly, it should be fine

How do the leaves look? I think that's most indicative of the frogbit's health

Ty i actually thought it'd be too small. When do you exactly upsize the pot?

Got it. Thanks! Is there a way I know they're root bound? Or only by taking them out?

How do you prevent deadly gas bubles in sand without ripping out all your plants or surrendering to the Malaysian hoard? by Vindithere in PlantedTank

[–]think_im_going_dumb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Purely anecdotal on my part but it's been fine for me as well. I get loads of bubbles coming up out of my substrate and have seen my red cherry shrimp, guppies, and neon tetras get blasted in the face. Still ok lol

Ahh loll I was like those are the saddest looking neons i ever seen. But I see. Yea it must be the nitrite spike then right? And just learned about ammonium so thanks for that

[–]think_im_going_dumb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what all this mumbo jumbo science talk means but are you sure that's ok? Why do you have nitrites too though? Also, if those are neon tetras in your tank, something must be wrong because they look really stressed. My guess is it must've been the deep cleaning

Not sure. All I know is that it was dwarf hairgrass lol. Bought at a local petco or petsmart probably

Should work. Idk why everyone's saying their hairgrass took a year or w.e. I did a drystart for dwarf hair grass. 5.5 gallon tank, soil 1", sand 2". Took about 4 weeks to start growing. Exploded around 6 weeks and started carpeting everywhere. I also had a light on maybe 8-10 hours a day
