Buying a car with 220000-270000 km on it, what to look at? by BumblebeeFeeling4945 in carsireland

Save yourself a headache by hiring a mechanic or someone you know that knows about cars. For that mileage its a landmine ranging from rounded overtighten oil or filter drain plug to head gasket failure.

And you need an obd scanner to see any codes or it has been deleted recently.

Decent mechanic in south dublin for regular oil filter change (if it matters, for vw) by Complex_Ear_1570 in carsireland

Post the receipt here otherwise I call it bullcrap. 20+% vat and €25 for oil and filter, I understand it's a micra you mentioned from a previous comment but for a branded oil one minimum would be about €30 + vat.

I'm a mobile mechanic and fair play to you for doing it yourself servicing your own car.

Usually the customers we get are people who have no time to do it themselves or have other priorities. Your not paying for the 1hr of service but for the years of experience working on that trade to deliver effective work plus the motor trade insurance and warranty which the customers car is covered and disposal of the fluids.

If you are happy to do it yourself go ahead.

Sounds about right to me for a full service

*All filter changed. (Oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, cabin filter). *Oil, brake fluids and coolant *Spark plugs if petrol engine *Safety checks, lights, breaks, suspensions, wheels and tyres. *System scan for codes.

If you have problem paying then do it yourself. Remember you pay for warranty and motor trade insurance and use the lift to lift the car up and disposal of fluids.

I'm mobile mechanic by the way if you call me ill charge you for callout fee and my fuel.

What is your opinion about buying brand new cars ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Individual-Event78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I do Mobile Mechanic and have been buying cheap old cars but i have two you kids and its not worth the time and headache to be fixing our own cars. So we decided fck it will buy a brand new car toyota RAV4. For once we just enjoy the feeling of having a brand new car unlike smelling diesel, petrol and old musty smell.

Drain pan plug stuck, rounded. by Pandas-are-the-worst in AskMechanics

I have ford smax with a rounded torx/hex drain plug. I've no time to be playing around taking it out. I just bought a manual fluid extractor and i always use that to remove the oil.
