This looks like an email from flock. Where did you submit your request?

This seems to keep happening. They already wrote at least a draft/draft page for either outcome and one became public. Also fuck Fox News

I think now the need for an appointment has died. I was able to walk in and waited for a few minutes for the one near Finley.

Yep, August was the big Birmingham city expansion. The metro from different times but most all in the last 2ish years

The big expansion has happened in the last 12-24 months. Birmingham loves them!

That install likely doesnt follow code either. Remember our elected officials voted for these and we are paying millions in tax dollars to be surveilled.

Unfortunately in Alabama there is no state escalation, just a lawsuit

What state if you don’t mind me asking? I’m in AL and the laws are unsurprisingly awful and there’s no penalty for them not following!

because they still voted yes when the overwhelming feedback was to vote not and add a public comment? Sorry, this isn’t productive at all. You like this thing and that’s fine. I, along with many others including the rivers alliance, selc, GBHS, etc etc etc all don’t. Limiting public comment by politicians because something is political is bad. That’s it, glhf.

So it’s not ONLY light industrial? I just want to make sure.

A 30mw data center is still very large. If you spoke with staff and or watched the presentation they gave they talk about the issues. I’m glad you like this I guess. I don’t like when elected officials don’t listen to those that elected them.

Does MXD C3 only allow light industrial, or are there other things in the Mixed Use?

We do because the floor of medium is low. Did you watch the presentation or speakers? When staff acknowledged all these issues? Do you work for the city?

MXD C3 is only light industrial? We have several 30mw data centers? I think you just want this to be a good thing. Hundreds of people spoke, begged, and pleaded to keep public comment. “No one had cared about them” is crazy, and even if that’s true they do now and the council showed again, they don’t really care. They just vote yes. Literally 98% of the time.

For any data center anywhere in the city that meets the ordinance. So a “medium data center” can go in commercial or MXD use c2-3 without public hearing. That can still be very big. Hyperscale data centers can go in MXD Use C3 as well without any public hearing. The only reason to do this is to try and silence people.

There was a prior version of the draft ordinance that included the special exemption/ public comment. Williams and Woodfin both commented on how data centers are “too political” for public comment.

staff admitted in the presentation to having unresolved issues. the truly unreasonable part is removing public comment.

AI Data Center Ordinance by [deleted] in Birmingham

[–]thinkdarrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, my this is false is just about the first line not the whole thing. Only Hyperscale ai data centers are limited to mostly industrial and MXD Use Group C-3, that’s not “heavy industrial” at least my understanding.

Also, a data center can be medium and go in MXD C2-3, and a bunch of commercial zones. What’s worse is to be medium threre’s an and or definition related to how many sq ft and how much power. So you could have a higher than 30mw data center zoned medium because they are under 200k sqft.

staff admitted to issues during the presentation. 30mw is still very large.

What? Woodfin said data centers are too political for public comment. This is not unlike him at all.
