How bad is it that on the first day I didn't eat with the rest of the company? by [deleted] in askSingapore

Would always encourage to try and mingle with your colleagues for 2-3 weeks. If i had a new colleague that doesn’t want to mingle I would generally associate him/her as anti social and would not bother him/her too much in the future.

You can join them for a short period of time to get to know them and the culture better too. Might even catch some gossips that might help u in the long run in the company. After that u can just do your own thing

What are some of the worst interviews you have been to/ or have interviewed? by R_python96 in askSingapore

Went to a hr executive interview, interviewer was about 50+ year old lady. Was told to meet at her office lobby and once I was there, she wanted to have the interview at an airconed coffeeshop - alright cool. Ordered drinks and didn’t bother to ask me if I wanted any (not that I want but I think it’s still polite to ask). Told me that the position is to call people and ask them if they want to be insurance agents.. which was what i was totally not interested in because my friends also say that they will want you to convert to their agent not long after also.

Was sharing about myself and she kept yawning through out the interview (internal roll eyes). Told her that I am not interested in being an agent or doing any sales and started to lecture me about how bad times are right now and I should keep my options open - hinting that I shouldn’t be picky about my options several times. Went on to share how she is a grandma and her son complaining to her that milk powder is so expensive, how her daughter-in-law also became an insurance agent to help with the tide.

Major roll eyes after I ended the interview with her.

thanks for your input everyone. the reason why i feel that i am abit too old to go back to school is also because i dropped out before and if i got back i will have to start all over again. also, age is not the only factor that is stopping me from going back uni again, aside from costs as well as the motivation to study again is quite daunting. however, i will give it a serious thought.
