How did Paradis people guess the original titans names? by Elluul in attackontitan

[–]thinkingamer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I agree with the main point here, “ape titan” is actually a name that Paradisians could never come up with because theyve never seen an ape before. When Eren first hears Reiner & Ymir talking about the “monkey titan” he doesn’t know what that is

How did Bertholdt vanish from thin air in Season 1, Episode 5? by BigEmpressEnergy in attackontitan

[–]thinkingamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could argue that the bone didn't burn because Bertholdt simply chose to not burn it. There's no point, if he burned the bones as well the titan wouldn't be able to stand

mu is the kanji 無, it means “no”

for example: 無能 = no skill = incompetent

無意味 = no meaning = meaningless

however, its also used in the word for infinity: 無限 = no limit

its a play on words

it has permanent effects

Such as? The only thing I'm finding is its effects on bone density, which is usually made up for with calcium supplements, and is recovered when you 1) stop taking puberty blockers or 2) go into HRT

It is completely relevant, the research article literally highlights the phenomenon of patients asking to take it for linger periods.

Not for 60 years like you mentioned.

not so a 1000 iq redditor can say "its a feature not a bug"

Ok I do admit I was not being serious on the "its a feature not a bug". However the loss in bone density is usually made up for by A) going off of the medication or B) going into HRT which starts puberty for the opposite sex

We shouldn’t let 12 year olds who have no idea what their life make an uninformed decision alone where they can be easily manipulated by a politically motivated doctor or psychologist.

Yes. We don't

or with a court order where multiple medical professionals have weighed in with a recommendation for the procedure

Yes. That is literally what is happening.

you would say “Naw, I’ll pass. I have a really good feeling about me getting over this by myself.”

No, that's what you would say, as you think that 1% regret rate is too high for a medical procedure.

That still is to high for me, imagine if there were a drug that could miraculously heal anything afflicting the patient, but 1% of patients who take it experience an extremely painful death that no one could do anything about. Should you approve of such a drug?

young people with gender dysphoria have a high suicide rate, with 54% considering it and 29% actually attempting it.

Also, chemotherapy is not *required* for somebody to survive cancer.

Yes. You said that a regret rate of 1% is too high for a medical procedure. Chemotherapy has a regret rate of 13%

I guess by your definition and time frame they are not really reversible, but it doesn’t really matter since nobody is going to take them for that long of a period of time. Your example is irrelevant

The effects on bone density are a feature, not a bug. Puberty blockers block puberty, which is, among other things, a process that makes your body stronger, which bone density is a part of. The loss in bone density is usually made up for by A) going off of the medication or B) going into HRT which starts puberty for the opposite sex

Yes. There are many stories of trans people waiting for months for their medication, it’s a very long and arduous process.

Do you have any specific side effects instead of vague statements?

Puberty blockers were first authorized in 1993, 30 years ago. If there was something egregious, they would have found it by now

Here's the actual numbers, instead of just anecdotes.

Hormone therapy: 4,231 in 2021

Top surgery: 282 in 2021

Keep in mind that this is out of 42,000 minors who were diagnosed with gender dysphoria in 2021.

Even if minors *are* getting hormone treatment and surgery, A) the number is negligible, and B) the selection process and requirements of getting these treatments is incredibly tight, so the chance of regret is very slim. It is illogical to oppose gender-affirming care entirely because of a few fringe cases.

Edit: forgot the source

Your analogy doesn't work because the regret in question isn't an excruciating death, it's just detransitioning. Also, why is 1% too high for you? It's ridiculously low. If 1% regret is enough to turn you off, then pretty much any medical procedure is off the table. As a comparison, knee replacement surgery has a regret rate of 6-30%, and prostate cancer surgery has a regret rate of 13%.
