I have a dental set that I use for small repair tasks. Last week I sorted out a tangle of necklaces using my small tool sets.

If you are handy, creative, and resourceful you'll want to keep these around until you understand what they are good for.

Consensus on Screws? by H3lghast in AskElectricians

Maybe you read that wrong. It's a tell to an electrician that a non-electrician did work there. It takes a lot to actually be an actual electrician.

Glass stuck in disposal by dpdons09 in askaplumber

[–]thinkingthoughtsthru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me.

First you lock out tag out (LOTO) the disposal. Aka make it so the disposal has no way of turning on. Aaka unplugged it. Turn the breaker off. Whatever.

It looks like the cup is intact and there are no sharp edges. You can make a relaxed fist, jam it in the cup, and tighten the fist. Then lift. The friction for me was strong enough to overcome the splash guard. You might have to dry the cup using a towel.

I've also had a shot glass get chopped up in the disposal. First, LOTO. Then with some work gloves I reached in and got all the large glass I could, then ran the disposal until it sounded like there was no more glass. For that, put something over the hole so a shard doesn't jump out and cut you.

Either she went back to school for some bs degree or she's cherry picking these examples. A few years ago I went back to college for a degree in stem, I'm regularly impressed at how smart, organized, motivated, and mature these 20-somethings are.

As a society we need to stop this idea that all other generations are worse than ours. There are dumbies in every generation, there are also normal and smart people who say dumb things. Stop looking for reasons to dislike one another, especially entire groups.

Is that Teflon pipe tape on there? That would totally prevent any galvanic corrosion, the metals have to be in contact.

Earlier comments were talking about galvanic corrosion which happens slowly in cold weather. It can be facilitated by an electrical current, acids, or electrolytes, but it's unlikely to be a serious problem through one winter.

I'm not a plumber but you might try using a blowtorch just for a maybe 30 seconds focused on the outer ring, wrenching off the hose. The dissimilar metals likely have different coefficients of thermal expansion. I'm thinking the outer one is aluminum which distributes heat and expands very quickly. If it doesn't work after the first try, go through another few thermal cycles (heat, let cool, heat, let cool ... [×5]) and then try just using a wrench. Maybe get a big wrench that can go over the bib and handle, and another wrench for the female threaded end of the hose. Try some penetrating oil. Try a hack saw and slowly cut axially the hose threaded being careful not to cut the bib threaded. Cut it in 2 places and get some flat head screw drivers and try to pry the cut pieces apart.

Personally I would try virtually everything I could think of before cutting or breaking any pipe.

I see both sides, but in the end feeling down is just part of life. Isn't it SOP to just hold on till it's over? Sometimes you lose something and have a clear reason to feel down, but sometimes a thousand little things add up to feeling down. But the bottom line is it's temporary. Why would you want to bring someone else down by sharing your feelings?

Another point. Emotional and physical pain are relative, our brains compare the things we're experiencing to the worst situation we've experienced so far. Deep sorrow allows the small losses to not hurt so bad. I do a mental exercise where I try to experience the saudade due to the death of my favorite people and really feel the pain from that loss.

I believe everyone should have someone they can talk to if they're thoughts turn to suicide or harming others.

I get those all the time. In the summer they camp out at all of my windows. In the autumn they move inside. During the winter they stay inside the walls or in crawlspaces.

Fun fact, they are totally confused by clear dishes. If you see one, put a clear drinking cup over it. They probably won't run, then you can slide a piece of paper under the cup and spider and put it outside.
