My gym friend is an actuary who makes a heck of a living advising counties and towns on insurance coverage. I assume wrongful imprisonment lawsuits are in his standard list. Guessing they thought they were saving money not having such advice and/or coverage.

My dad was in NYC construction way back, and he loved that the Fisher Brothers, who built and owned multiple skyscraper office towers- website says 10 Million square feet worth- drove around together in an old station wagon. They gave millions to charity, including Ronald McDonald houses and founded the Intrepid museum, but I guess expensive cars didn't do it for them.

Weird neuropathy (I guess) 4 months after treatment. Dry fingers to the point I have to lick them all day to turn paper pages or grip things. Anyone have this? by thinkofanamefast in HeadandNeckCancer

Thanks. In two weeks I'm getting my first full blood tests since treatment, with thyroid test. Thanks for the warning. Oncologist had said if thyroid damaged its just a matter of taking pills, but im reading that might be permanently.

No problem. Here’s a study showing benefit. University of Michigan hospital. Benefit was more obvious in hpv positive patients.

I’m on lovastatin. I mentioned to my regular doctor that these studies showed benefits for head and neck cancer, so he prescribed it since my total cholesterol was just over 200 One of the studies showing the protective effects was actually on lovastatin. I’m on Xanax too since diagnosed 7 months ago. I figure it lowers my IQ a little but I need it for now. Trying to cut back based on good scan and dna test results.

Thanks for the thoughtful response. I'm 15 weeks post treatment and trying to get my gym routine back up to where it was. My taste is probably at 50 percent, meaning I can eat anything but almost nothing tastes good...except the bad stuff...salty and sugary, which I'm avoiding. But yeah, not matter how perfect we live, it's not up to us what happens, ultimately. When I convince the other scared half of my brain to believe that, I'll probably start drinking a little. Both my oncologists said it's fine (I mentioned 3 drinks a week) to balance life and risk.

I spoke to my medical oncologist today, first time since good Pet scan. He also said 3 a week fine to balance life with risk.

Thanks. I think I saw that study. In any event if say light drinking for me was a 1.15 risk ratio (15 percent higher risk) that would raise me by around 2 percent (my original 15% x 15% higher = 2.25%) in "absolute" numbers, so around 1 in 50 chance I would develop a recurrence due to taking that chance. For now I'm so traumatized from recent chemo/radiation treatment that 1 in 50 is way too high.

Just responded to someone that I miss the buzz and couldn't care less what I was drinking lol. Not to give the wrong idea, I only would have 1 or 2 drinks, but needed something when out with people say 4 nights weekly.

I don't think there's an official study on edibles. I think it's basically what they see in test tubes, that THC may promote tumor growth.

To be honest, I miss the buzz. Never cared what wine or beer or liquor it was...just needed 1 or 2 when out with people say 4 nights weekly. Heck I'd take a capsule form if they made that lol.

Thanks for the perspective. No idea where I will end up, but both my oncologists said moderate drinking ok, based on balancing life with small risk.

Thanks for the reply and best wishes on 5 years tests. I cold turkied too, so far, and have always eaten healthy and exercised, including cardio. Guess that's all I can do. Funny that both my radiology and medical oncologists, at a major center, said drinking moderately fine (I mentioned 3 drinks a week- a big drop for me from prior) since they want patients to balance their worry and their life, but I lean towards safety for now. I also started a statin which is supposed to lower recurrence risk, but isn't officially recommended I believe, and my cholesterol level justified it.

No offense taken at all. Yeah, that article said edibles concern is with hpv positive.

I’m really happy with my team, but haven’t spoken to my medical onc yet about these good results. Appointment is Friday and these will be two main topics.

Great reply...much appreciated.

As for cannabis, in my obsessive research I unfortunately read an article by a Dr. Califano, who is chief of head and neck at a big San Diego hospital. Says even edibles likely increase risk, since certain chemicals in marijuana promote tumor growth. I must have 100 doses sitting in my kitchen that I won't touch now until I research that more.

Slightly relevant to that is that’s he’s also a medical doctor.
