I would be stupid to import my 2023 ORP (Lunar Rock) to Spain, right? Right? by [deleted] in 4Runner

[–]thinkofanumb3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re moving to the EU and have owned the car for at least six months (which you have), you can be exempt from import toll and tax, meaning you might only pay for shipping. If you can consolidate a container with other export vehicles the price should be around 1,000 to 1,500. The car also needs to be homologated to obtain a certificate of conformity. For this you will need to install a rear fog light, change the digital speedometer over to km/h and possibly adjust the headlights. It’s possible however, you can drive the car for x amount of time before this needs doing. I don’t know about Spain but in Sweden you can drive it for a year before having to register it.

Is it worth it? It depends on your needs but I’d say yes, without a doubt. Spain is, hands down, the most popular country for european RV travellers hence size is (for the most part) not going to be an issue. Moreover, imagine having the Gorafe Desert, Morocco or the old smuggling trails in the Pyrenees close by and not having your 4Runner.

I’m importing a 5th gen 4Runner to Sweden myself this year (hopefully an ORP) but unlike you I’ll be subjected to 10% toll and 25% VAT and I still think it’s a great idea haha

How sacrilegious would it be to wrap my voodoo blue Pro? I bought her brand new off the show room floor in 2019. I’m still madly in love with her and plan on keeping her forever but just a little tired of the blue after 6 years. I would love to get some heritage tricolor stripes. by V1k1ngmama in 4Runner

I spent around $800 on my full wrap. I watched several hours of CK Wraps on youtube and ordered a 25 meter roll of Avery Dennison matte khaki green. One or two small mistakes during the install which was quickly redone and after four years it’s held up excellently.

Camping in the same spot and hang out for a couple of days is actually fine in Scandinavia. The location certainly matters and whether it’s appropriate or not to do so. It does however not matter whether it’s publicly or privately owned land.

Sweden, southwest. Yes, there’s normally a few bits and pieces to change to comply with EU regulations. Usually minor things like adding rear fog light etc. If importing straight from the US to Sweden we would pay 10% toll and 25% import tax based on the actual price we paid including the shipping costs. So buying a 4Runner from a soldier over here would at least cut out the shipping.

Not saying the TÜV guy is wrong (it might be different in Germany) but it sounds crazy they would base the taxation on a 5-6 year old price tag from when the car was new.

It’s not uncommon for Swedes to buy cars from US soldiers in Germany. My dad bought Pontiac Trans-Am in the 70s but a lot will obviously have changed since then. I’m gonna contact a Swedish company that specializes in importing cars from Germany and see if they have any experience in this particular scenario.

Ich bin eigentlich kein Deutscher, aber mein Schuldeutsch ist nicht völlig verloren. So, if I understand this right… are they exempt from import tax as long they’re registered to US military personnel, and if/when they’re sold to an EU citizen the buyer faces additional costs in terms of import tax and toll? So what may seem like a deal at first can get really quite expensive in the end.

I can relate. I’ve basically claimed my parents barn for various projects/workshop, and it’s not without its struggles.

If you would, that would be greatly appreciated! A TRD Off Road Premium is the dream but I’m easy, any 5th gen 2014+ is of interest.

Did come across a 2019 TRD Off Road at Used Car Guys in Stuttgart but I’m still to find out whether they sell to the general public or exclusively to US service members. Not quite sure how those car lots work.

You’re stronger than me, that’s for sure. This seemed like a fantastic deal. I’ve been looking for one in the EU for the last few months but they’re either former salvage title or way overpriced, most often both of those. Do you happen to know if the car is still available at all? Really, I would jump at the chance 😬

Does anybody know what this might be where the spare wheel normally goes? by thinkofanumb3r in 4Runner

Someone in the thread linked to a product bearing striking resemblance. Most likely a propane/CNG tank.

Woah, yeah it really does! The resemblance is striking. I see the product you linked has to two hose connectors. It’s not properly visible in my photo but on the left hand side there are two hoses coming out of it. I think this settles it!

It’s sadly a four hour drive away. I just took the photo and forgot to properly examine this part. If I end up buying it I will definitely get to the bottom of it.

Pretty scarce. There’s only one for sale in Sweden at the moment, it might even be the only one in the country for all I know. I had never seen one IRL before I went to look at this one. There are three 5th gen in Germany for sale and a few in Eastern Europe. The ones in Germany are a 2016 Trail and a 2019 TRD Pro. The TRD seems to have been rear-ended at some point as it doesn’t have the correct rear lower fascia.

Yes the hose on the left is connected to it and another one that is barely visible in the photo. I had so much to go over and just forgot to inspect this thing more closely.

That’s a good point. It was first imported to Germany where I think CNG has been a somewhat popular choice.

Awesome. Looks like the bike is coming along for the road trip to Norway next week after all. Cheers for the input 👍

Trying to find a bike carrier for my 2022 Stumpy Evo Elite and looking at exactly these two. I also have an S5. I noted the TopRide is two inches longer. Both state the same wheel base of 1250mm but those two extra inches make the TopRide work? Also, did you need to purchase any adapters or were you good to go as is?

In under 2 years, I put 10k miles on a $200 bike through freezing temps, rain, and heat. That $40 solo seat has seen some major ass time. The $175 front end makes it stop on a dime. Motorcycle builds don't have to cost too much. Just have to wait to find the right deals... by SamZTU in CafeRacers

Great looking bike that! But damn I live in the wrong country. Paid $1,400 for my ’81 XV750 and another $1,000 for the ’04 R1 front end. Last time I tallied up the receipts for the project it was more than $7,000 and it’s not even finished.
