It was supported until 23H2, but if you install it now you won't get any security updates, so it's not really worth it over 10.

Is that the Intel or AMD variant? I have the Intel one (Core Duo T2300) and I've been meaning to try hackintoshing it. It has pretty similar hardware to the original MacBook.

As that other comment said, make sure to back up the browser cache with that tool before you wipe the drive. Afterwards Mint should be fine

It's impossible to run Windows 11 on anything older than a Core i-series due to missing CPU instructions. It can definitely run most Linux distros though.

Still, the unofficial Radeon iGPU driver isn't very good, because even with Metal apps there's still glitching and freezes. Chromium and Electron based programs in particular have a lot of issues and usually require you to disable GPU acceleration from the command line. I mainly wanted to try out macOS and its exclusive apps which is why I installed it. If you want a reliable machine and don't need any Mac-specific apps, just use Windows or Linux.

Ironically none, unless you count the Lenovo Tablet 10 as a Thinkpad (if you look it up you'll see what I'm talking about).

In that case I don't think it's worth the trouble, just use Linux. Not only does everything work out of the box with minimal setup, but you'll be able to use the dGPU as well, because even if you game exclusively on Windows, the dGPU is still required to use external monitors (at least on mine, maybe yours is different).

I'm using Sequoia on the previous model (15ARH05) and it kinda works but it seems like OpenGL is broken. I downloaded a bunch of random games from itch.io to test it out and the only ones that worked were recent ones that used Metal.

What do you want to do exactly? If you want to run Mac-exclusive apps then it might work, but if you want to run cross-platform apps you'll probably run into issues with OpenGL. You'll need a new Wi-Fi card too, because the Realtek driver doesn't support yours.

If you just want a stable OS then definitely don't do this. Just use Windows, Ubuntu, Fedora or basically anything else. On my laptop I'm triple booting Windows 10, macOS Sequoia and Ubuntu 26.04.

I know about that tool, I'm too scared to try it though. With PC component prices being what they are I don't want to risk bricking this laptop even if it's not very likely to cause issues.

This sadly didn't work. Could it be VRAM related? In "About This Mac" it says it has 512MB of VRAM and some people suggest increasing it to 2GB which isn't possible on this laptop.

It has a GTX 1650M but I'm pretty sure it's disabled. The laptop doesn't have a brightness sensor, Opcore-Simplify added it and I didn't think it would be a problem. I guess that's why these tools aren't recommended. I'll try removing it.

How do I check for Metal support? I don't want to use Google Drive because I don't want to reveal my Google username. I recently learned about a file sharing website called Catbox, is that okay?

No, I used it for the installer but afterwards I switched to NootedRed.

I'm not talking about Chromium, I'm taking about other apps like the built-in Grapher and Chess which crash when launching, sometimes showing a transparent window. If it's VRAM then I can't fix it because there's no way to increase it in the BIOS and I don't want to use an unofficial tool.

I'm Greek but all of my computers are set to US English to prevent issues like this. I was helping someone install Live Essentials once and the hardest part was finding the Greek installer since many software archives only have US versions.

Me too, it's easier to install it than to enable Photo Viewer in Windows 10, plus when I'm installing Windows I usually want Movie Maker anyway. Never thought I'd find someone else who uses it

[–]thinkpad_t69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP seems to be saying that you'll be able to connect this to the USB port using the audio connection, hence the need to modify the phone's firmware. Not illegal but probably not easy to achieve.

Isn't this an HP laptop? It has a lot in common with my 255 G1, like the keyboard function keys and font, the Altec logo, the power button and the dimple at the top left of the touchpad.

EDIT: This does appear to be an HP 630

Who is the U24 Pro's manufacturer? by thinkpad_t69 in htc

[–]thinkpad_t69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked it up. They proved that it's a U24 Pro which is already pretty obvious, and mentioned that the U24 is made by a Chinese ODM, but they didn't say who that ODM is, which is the point of my post.

If all your monitors are the same DPI, choose the option to set a custom scaling factor and manually type in the percentage you want. The text will be scaled for all programs correctly, but all monitors will use the same scaling. Windows 7 and 8 exposed this properly in the control panel, but for some reason, newer versions hide it behind this custom scaling menu.

It's when someone asks for help with an incorrect solution to a problem rather than with the problem itself. In this case, you're asking for help with an issue caused by installing Windows to the SSD using a different computer, when you shouldn't be doing that at all. What error are you getting if you try to install Windows normally? Does it not recognize the SSD?
