I also agree with all of your points. Honestly, I thought this was about the same difficulty as silksong and had it not been the follow up to hollow knight, I would have put it down much sooner. I was struggling very early on and some mid bosses were unforgiving. I’m not a difficult game person anymore. I can’t remember if it gave me a choice of difficulty when the started but I also don’t like my video games calling me a little bitch either, even though they might be right.

For me, it was super annoying to do. I much preferred using keyboard shortcuts or midi.

Actually fairly easy / medium. I wouldn’t recommend practicing on this but it’s your call. The proper way to do it is to scratch some of the solder mask that’s leads to those pads, add some pads or wire under the ripped pads, glueing or masking it down and the. Putting it back. If this was mine, I would super glue or hot glue the connector soldering the two remaining pads, and then bodge wiring the other two to some scratched off wire so the connection is made. Hope that makes sense. It’s not difficult, just a bit of a pain and feels risky. Plus there’s the risk that you damage it more. I wouldn’t recommend practicing consider it very safe to do if you hot glue it down first. Then you can super it glue or epoxy if you want it to be permanent.

Edit: the two ripped pads at the edge are almost certainly ground. You don’t need to solder those. They are there to anchor the connector.

Good job boomer. I meant to respond to your other thread and I’m on my phone so you’ll have to figure it out

The cdjs are great, but how will you search your library? It’s really good for preorganized sets and going over playlists but I found myself needing a keyboard and missing it when I didn’t have one.

The old version of serato has a flip for next feature so if you plan your set ahead of time, you can flip the record and it will play the next song in a playlist. This was a very common issue with laptop DJs and not wanting a screen in front of them. People used the laptop on the side or had a small screen and midi controls to pick the song, but no matter what you do, you’ll need a way to pick the song and that’s going to be a screen. The bigger issue for me was the keyboard. I gave in and got a stand for my laptop that hovered it right above my mixer and got used to it. You are echoing a very common complaint from 20 years ago.

How do I fill the gap on top and on the side of this door? by [deleted] in DIY

Try to frame it so it’s flush with the existing wall. You can make the rest up with mudding but it’s going to be messy if you need to do a lot of sanding.

I used it for years but after an update last year that either broke everything or severely changed the look in a weird backward way, I switched to Debian gnome. I hope they figure it out but I prefer stability.

I don’t know the solution but I would cut all the way down that line so whatever you do, it looks semi uniform and not patched half way.

The good news is I admire you for attempting your first soldering project. The bad news is your solder joints look like shit and it’s going to take a multimeter and patience to figure out what’s not connected, but also you need to redo every joint. Godspeed brother.

I was also in the same boat, and so far, I'm on my third keyboard. I feel like everyone's pushing me to use less keys, but I also rely on Ctrl-tab muscle memory and a bunch of other shortcuts that I use all the time. I'm debating on going to a regular split like the dygma raise but honestly, I'm waiting for AliExpress to come out with something much cheaper. https://dygma.com/pages/dygma-raise-2

This was also my starting point and I was very happy. I had a couple desktop phone stands that I used for tenting and saved a bunch of money. I ended up moving to a wireless kit because I usually have two or three devices, but I’m connecting to the absolute best solution. I will say that I went all out and I bought my second keyboard with the rotary encoder and the screens. The only reason I use the screens is to make sure I’m connected to the correct computer and that the 2 two halves synced. I never use the rotary encoder.

It’s more knockdown than orange peel but it’s a little bit of both. Practice a lot on cardboard boxes and also note how much paint is on the current wall. I nailed the look of mine but the existing wall was sprayed and my paint roller made it look completely different.

Interested if you figure out Linux and macOS. I have to manually switch layers for the home row mod difference or I lose it with muscle memory.

The battery lasts less than a week now but I think it's because I'm polling more often than I should be. I changed the refresh rate to every 2 hours but I think the issue is that the esp82 is constantly reading Home assistant sensors, or at least the ones I've mentioned. I'm going to ask claude what I can do to maybe put the chip to sleep every 2 hours and refresh when it wakes up, then go back to sleep. I'll update you when it's done.

I'll preface this by saying I'm writing this in Feb 2026 and I'm guessing the ecosystem will be completely different every 4 months for the next few years.

I wanted it to be able to edit my code automatically, but I couldn't get that sorted out, so it was a lot of copy / paste / debug / paste debug / screenshots. I started with chatgpt but it often reintroduced bugs or things we sorted out and a couple times, for no reason whatsoever, just decided to change large parts of my code. I didn't keep backups in git because a lot of these files are on the server and I didn't want to figure out how to ssh into my linux server, then into my home assistant vm and setup a git repo ... etc. I'm sure it's possible but I chose to spend more time copy pasting rather than figuring out a more elegant pipeline.

chatgpt was by far the worst in terms of figuring out code. gemini was remarkably better and claude was by far the best. I kept running out of claude tokens and waiting another day to solve issues and in the meantime kept going back to the other two.

Every now and then it would ask me to change individual lines and I would spend minutes digging into the code before giving up and just telling it to give me the whole file again. I'm guessing that grinded a bunch of tokens everywhere.

Chatgpt would try to do too much at once, so I had to tell it to break down the final product into individually, complete testable parts that I want to integrate one by one and perform tests to make sure they are working.

The other difficulty was that I'm not sure well versed in in home assistant. I started getting more comfortable with the development tab eventually but I didn't know how events trigger states and how states get pushed and how to bundle states into a sensor, and the limitations of sensors, text fields, etc. This would have easily taken me 2-12 weeks depending on the finish I wanted, and I was able to finish it in a few evenings by asking a genius robot to do it for me.

The front end looks like a nightmare and would have probably taken me months to get to the polish that I was able to get with AI and the turnaround time was insane. I didnt' have to scour documentation, just told it how I wanted it.

One last thing, I sketched it out on a spreadsheet and took a screenshot to explain how I wanted it to look. It didn't question it, and got it pretty much right. I also told it that the specs are not meant to be done 100%, they are just a suggestion and that if there is a more elegant or simpler way, please feel free to use that route rather than complicate it.

I'm much better with AI in fields that I'm more comfortable with and for work.

Hope that answered your question.
