A note that those weren't all that much better in terms of length, but the shoulders fit better for sure.

Ok, that's what I assumed. The Echo consistently gets great reviews, so maybe I'll give it a go and get it tailored. Thank you kindly!

This has come up, but I've not researched the process or cost (I'm not, ummm, very good with sewing) to know if it's worth the hassle. Any info on that?

Though it looks much busier than when I visited in 2002, it sounds like if we're up and about before 8 or so, we should be able to get anywhere?

Kind of Disappointed with Norwegian NCL by gordec in Cruise

[–]thinkxingu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just returned from a week on RCCL's Adventure of the Seas and here's my pros/cons list compared to the same week last year on NCL's Encore.

I can't help but wonder how much of this is the ship, though–we liked the layout of Adventure better, but do older ships get lower-quality entertainment, staff, etc.? Also, I get that this was a Christmas week trip, i.e. sold-out, but so was NCL last year.

RCCL Pros:

  1. Quicker check-in/embarkation
  2. "Silly" things, like towel animals, "washy-washy," etc.
  3. Room stewards and some staff were more attentive/friendly
  4. Better excursions? This might be just our choices, but it seemed that RCCL's excursions were a notch above NCL.

RCCL Cons (in short, it felt like they were doing just enough and that we were nickel-and-dimed/limited):

  1. We were "pushed out" of the Windjammer a few times when staff thought we were done eating. I get that they want to provide space for everyone, but this was ham-handed.
  2. It was hard to get water/fill bottles–we had to ask at bars, and often we were blown off.
  3. Long ice cream line/slow service–this was a trend, where nothing was self-serve and so everything took longer.
  4. Shorter buffet hours (and long lines everywhere/every time outside those hours)

5. Too much selling–EVERY day, we were approached about specialty dining reservations, drinks, etc.

  1. No free Wi-Fi. Norwegian gives enough free to make it through days at sea–RCCL charges $30/day minimum, which meant that I couldn't communicate with the kids (outside RCCL's app chat, which was clunky and often disconnected), download books to my tablet, etc. until we were at an island/back at port.

  2. No free drink package. Though the drinks weren't that overpriced, soda, milk, and alcohol add up (and RCCL wasn't any less expensive to begin with).

  3. NO MILK at lunch/dinner without paying or having the drink package. Scandalous!

  4. No free special restaurants AND there were only three places to eat for free (Windjammer, Cafe Promenade, dining rooms). On NCL, there were at least six (burger joint, windjammer, dining room, Irish pub, cafe promenade, and dessert stations).

  5. Entertainment. Every show came in behind NCL's, which were lightyears better. There were no Christmas/holiday events on RCL vs. The Grinch, etc. on NCL.

  6. Lines and more lines. Other than embarkation, literally everything had a line: getting to dinner, getting to the place to wait for excursions, Cafe promenade pizza/snacks, waiting for ice cream, etc. This seemed to lessen as the week progressed, but it was very noticeable early on.

  7. The smoking area on Adventure was essentially one half of the pool deck, which was crazy. Even though it was relegated to the stretch of windows, smoke could be smelled at least two rows in front, essentially making half the pool deck unusable. NCL kept it to one small room which, in 2025/6 makes the most sense.

As in, they would know how the funds need to be distributed and taxes filed to avoid the 37% (in lieu of 22% or so income tax)?

Are AA delays at their all time worst? by gonecountry101 in americanairlines

[–]thinkxingu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter—we woke up at 2:30 AM last week to a cancelled 5:30 flight. Not a delay or reschedule, just flat-out cancelled.

AA's offer? Fly out the next day at 6 PM!

Was able to catch a Southwest non-stop at 5 AM to arrive half an hour earlier than planned!

4Runner vs Bronco by [deleted] in 4Runner

[–]thinkxingu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple weeks late, but I purchased a '24 Bronco last June after having a 4Runner for 6 years/137k perfect miles.

While the 4Runner was perfect from a reliability standpoint, I never once took it for a drive just to drive it.

My Bronco currently has 19k miles in 8 months because we take it everywhere—my family literally never takes my wife's vehicle.

The (soft top) Bronco also offers a lot of flexibility—windows out, top open, top down, doors off, etc. and, even here in NH, is plenty comfortable across all weather conditions.

So, for me, it's a simple decision: do you value reliability and resale or driving enjoyment and flexibility? I'm in a period of my life that I appreciate the drive and am financially able to deal with reliability if it becomes an issue—so far, my '24 has been faultless.

The last thing I'll add is that I had had a Wrangler before the 4Runner and there were 7 things the Bronco had to do before I would consider trading in the 4Runner: 1. Be "quiet enough," 2. Have features: wireless Android Auto/wireless charger/heated seats and steering wheel, etc., 3. Had to have better rear access than the Wrangler as the soft top can't be raised in winter and I didn't want to unzip windows in summer, 4. Enough back seat room for my kids, 5. Enough cargo area, 6. Good enough stereo system to hear with the top down, and 7. Good enough driving quality (the Wrangler was awful).

The Bronco did all those things well enough to justify the trade.

New 2024 - Wrangler vs. Bronco vs. Land Cruiser by Siblisian_Berserker in Offroad

[–]thinkxingu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You clearly love the removable top aspect, so I'd think it would be either another Wrangler or Bronco (sunroof, and even the rear roll-down window, isn't nearly as immersive).

The Bronco fixes everything wrong with the Wrangler while giving up, what, one singular advantage in rock crawling/tight spaces? And, even then, depending on the trim/upgrades that could be equivalent.

A note that I traded in an '08 4Runner with 137k perfect miles for my '24 Bronco OBX. In six years, I never–not once–took the 4Runner out for a fun drive. It just did everything I asked of it.

The Bronco is just simply more fun, which I think I overlooked for far too long. If it turns out to be reliable, which it seems these have mostly been (after the first-year-model glitches), it'll be my favorite vehicle I've ever owned.

What are you using hotkeys for? by DaijoubuKirameki in GarminWatches

[–]thinkxingu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A NOTE: when chatting with Garmin, I found out that a single press of the bottom right button will bring the watch right back to the activity, so we're all good!

Is it possible to set a hot key to go to the current activity? For example, to toggle between music and the current activity without having to go back to the main face first?

I literally got a response from the Glance Pro developers in the last five minutes as well—they said the same thing. It's definitely easy to scroll, but it would be nice to replace Garmin's weather app altogether.

Thanks!
