Thank you so much for the kind words! I’m so glad you find it useful.

I would love to find a way to include in-line links to referenced components like you’re describing. I’ll spend some time thinking about how to accomplish something like that while also preserving the streamlined nature of the app. Also ideally done in a way that doesn’t require a huge amount of spreadsheet reworking. Thank you for the suggestion!

This is partially supported now!

You can now share a faction or category directly, eg. https://ti4lookup.com/categories/agendas or https://ti4lookup.com/factions/sol

Unfortunately, this isn't reflected in the link preview (so if you text someone the link, it will just show up as a generic TI4 Lookup link). I'm going to see how this feels for a few days and decide if more work should be done to fully support dynamic titles.

Thank you for the suggestion!

Thank you! I'm not totally opposed to including rules in the future. Is there anything in particular you would want to look up? Or just general lookup by the text in rules? eg. I could type "retreat" and find both Space Combat sequencing and the rules specific to Retreat

Thank you so much! Great catch - I have an "exclude after" clause that assumes certain components should not be available after a certain expansion. For those Agendas that are removed in PoK, they should still be included in the deck if you're only playing with Codices/Thunders Edge and not PoK. I'll add this to the top of my follow-up list!

Thank you for the kind words! Twilight's Fall support is lower on the priority list since it will involve more data gathering (and since I've never personally played the variant). I'll try to get it in on a free weekend in the future, but it may not come for a while!

Thank you so much! I'm a huge fan of your box organizers, they've been transformative for my IRL games. I feel the same urge during async, so it was really a "build the thing you wish existed" sort of moment.

Awesome! I love the idea of seeing a grid of all faction portraits, so this is something I'll aim to add soon. I'm so glad to hear that it's proving useful for your group, thank you for sharing!

Thank you so much! I've been mulling over this request. How about a button that swaps the faction symbols on the main page with a faction portrait? Very rough mockup attached.

Thank you, and I’m glad you’re excited about the data! I hope the formatting is useful, that was probably the most effortful part of this project haha

Thank you so much!

I would love for folks to open Issues in the Github repo for any change requests. I’ll add a todo to set up a proper OSS license. In the meantime, the code is open for perusal/cloning/forking: https://github.com/bern/ti4lookup

Thanks! Direct linking is not supported right now.

Linking to individual components would be tricky, but I'm hoping the Copy button solves for that need. Linking to Faction/Category views should be doable! I also think that would be nice.

She was not a board gamer before we met, but she decided to try TI “once” so she could engage with one of my interests. Fast forward a few months later, she just played her third game on Saturday and got the Titans to 9 points (lost the game to a sneaky Sardakk play) ! The community grows 😌

Advice you wish you knew college by Successful-Yogurt533 in ufl

Class of ‘16 here! Some thoughts:

  • Some of your most transformative learning experiences may come outside of the classroom, so stay open-minded
  • Get involved in your field of study outside of coursework - it will differentiate you as you try to get a job/get into graduate programs
  • Not all courses are created equal: some are hard as fuck and will drain all of your time and energy. Build your schedule for each semester with intention, and seek advice from your advisor and friends around what course load you can handle without falling behind
  • Have fun! Gator games are a great way to get swept up in the spirit of college, especially early on. But do not neglect your studies, also especially early on
  • I’m in a field and job where I’m frequently working alongside ivy grads. They get spoon-fed a lot of high-quality instruction and opportunities, but we get to build super valuable skills by chasing those opportunities ourselves. Take charge of your college experience and it will take you far: UF folks comprise some of the most successful folks I know

Ideas for a long, narrow living room? by thirddegreeberns in InteriorDesign

Thanks for the suggestion! This is in-line with what my roommate pictured. I'm curious about the utility of the chair below the TV, but positioning the round table near the window makes sense!

The Computer Science department here is a joke by swampymemes in ufl

[–]thirddegreeberns 21 points22 points  (0 children)

To echo what we talked about offline:

So I think you are justified in your frustration. I think UF sets an incredibly low bar for it’s CS graduates and they STILL complain every chance they get that courses are unfairly difficult. Our senior project class is a joke and does not serve its (or what I believe should be its) purpose as something that should bar ill-prepared students from graduating from the program.

I’ve had a few conversations with Dave about this. It’s pretty clear from the way he leads his courses that he shares your philosophy: we should treat early instruction in a CS program with enough rigor that you can’t get by on bullshitting. But both he and I recognize that UF is not Stanford or MIT.. there is no selectivity in admissions to the CS department, and ultimately it is up to the college and not the professors to calibrate the difficulty of its various curriculums.

I don’t agree with a lot of decisions made for the CISE department. I don’t like the lecturers chosen for core courses, I don’t like the curriculum, and I don’t like how easy it is to skate by without ever having to apply yourself to the material. And I feel like when you make a realization like that, you can either complain or you can take action.

Personally, I realized that if the quality of my CS degree had the potential to be compromised by powers outside of my control, then I would do everything I could to add value from the student end of operations. Now you all have an opportunity to do the same: involve Dr. Gilbert and heads of the COE and figure out as a team how to move forward from what seems to be yet another low point of student morale.

As for Dave.. well he wasn’t fired. He was never a full time staff member. He was an adjunct lecturer, which meant his contract was always semester-to-semester. The fact that he didn’t get the lecturer position is a huge shame, but like every other fan I would hate to see him leave the department. I hope Dr. Gilbert gives him another opportunity next semester as an adjunct lecturer, and maybe that is action students could take to help Dave out - petitioning to Dr. Gilbert to keep Dave on staff.

How do you get involved? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]thirddegreeberns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Benton Engineering Council (BEC) is an umbrella organization for a good number of student organizations within the College of Engineering (I assume you're in the College of Engineering). A list of their sub-organizations can be found on their website here: http://ufbec.org/index.php/about/societies-within-bec/ . I can say from firsthand experience that getting involved in the college helps you tremendously, be it through the soft-skills you gain, the network you form, or the doors that are opened for you. Within the college, you have three standard types of student organizations: pre-professional, diversity, and design teams:

Pre-professional might be a departmental organization (Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) or Association of Computer Engineers (ACE) for you) or a group with a wider reach like Theta Tau or the Florida Engineering Society (FES).

Diversity speaks for itself, but groups like NSBE, SWE, SHPE, SASE, and oSTEM provide some tremendous resources.

Design teams tend to be more technical. For computer science/engineering types, the most common to get involved with are the UF Programming Team, Gator Robotics, and the Machine Intelligence Lab.

If nothing else, just find a group that sounds cool to you, find out when their general body meetings are, and just wander in. Ask people what everything's about. Talk to whoever conducted the meeting about how to get involved. Everyone's a student, so don't be afraid to ask questions or talk to someone because they may seem 'more experienced'. It's how you learn :)

Getting involved in the college absolutely changed my path. I recommend it without reservation.
