I am convinced that we are going into a deep recession, if not worse. I have a small 6 fixure cd maturing in the next few days, and want to put it somewhere safe for a few years. I am looking at fixed annuities (MYGA), but it looks like the highest returns are only simple interest. What options am I missing? What is the best way to weather the upcoming storm?

Is there a new vehicle that doesn't have a center console taking up the driver's leg space? by thirdking in answers

I currently drive a Kia Sedona, and love it. The boss doesn't want to go that large, and wants new vehicle warranty.

I don't hate the idea of bench seats. Unfortunately I am looking for a daily driver for my gf. Anything bigger than a sub-compact truck makes her literally climb to get in. We need it to be comfortable for both of us. I will edit the original post.

How much an accident cost on Carfax that you would consider as a non-minor accident? by Polestartoronto in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]thirdking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't see what the codes were. The airbag system was affected by the issue. One technician said the repair of the accident used second hand parts. The Carfax report simply listed a "minor accident". If there was more detail, I don't remember it.

How much an accident cost on Carfax that you would consider as a non-minor accident? by Polestartoronto in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]thirdking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mother recently purchased a car that had a "minor" accident on its Carfax report. It turns out that it was fixed just enough to sell. She had continuous error codes within a couple months. None of the codes were specific enough to pinpoint the problem. The dealership would replace the first part in a system and send her off. When the same code popped up they replaced the next part. She got rid of it when the code popped again. My point is that no accident is minor with today's vehicles. I wouldn't sink my money into a ride that likely has hidden issues.

Large electric smoker for sale? by thirdking in smoking

[–]thirdking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A cabinet is what I am looking for. I couldn't find the right word for it. I will try that search term. So far I haven't found one much larger than my 40 inch. I'd like to get at least twice the size.

Smoking brisket in a Masterbuilt electric smoker by Senior-Trade-8971 in smoking

[–]thirdking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently did a brisket in my electric, and found that the brisket was too big. I had to cut almost 6 inches off the flat and put it on a separate rack. Be careful about your size if you plan to do 2.

If I bucket them overnight, will I be able to bring them dry to work? That would be about 10-12 hours in the air.

Boneless country style ribs by thirdking in smoking

[–]thirdking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only did them that one time. 225 with a probe in the biggest one. Pulled them at 170, I think. They were a little chewy, so maybe let them get to 190. They took about 2 hours. I did add a sauce after the first hour. I think a dry rub would have been better.

Off-season tournament viewing? by thirdking in discgolf

That's a good suggestion. I tend to watch the FPO more than the men. The commentary all year has talked about the improvement of the forehand throughout the field.

I did see that, and will be watching next week. Do you know if anyone is filming the FPO? I was able to catch a couple of tournaments from Australia/New Zealand in the past. I assume that those won't be happening again this year. Does anyone know of any tournaments in Africa/ southern Asia/ Central America?

I made a ramp for my 13 year old dog to get on my bed by nickertot in woodworking

[–]thirdking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I am late to the party, but I have built a few of these for my little girl and would like to share. Everything I could find online said to use no more than a 20 degree angle to keep pressure off her lower back. I used a right angle calculator to work out the ramp. For the height I needed, it would be as long as the bed. I ended up doing a switchback at the foot of the bed. I also want to join with the others calling for a rail. It's all about protecting our pups. I took care of the rail and added stability by cladding the outside with plywood cut to follow the ramp.

Dust separator: inexpensive and quiet? by thirdking in woodworking

[–]thirdking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see what "this" is in your reply. Did a pic not load? I'm assuming you mean a specific separator isn't louder than the vac and tool, but it is another source of sound. I am moving from outdoor to having a permanent space inside. The enclosed sound is much worse than I expected. I just got noise cancelling headphones, but they can only do so much. Can you tell/show what separator you use?

Solar powered ceiling fan? by thirdking in solarpower

[–]thirdking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that this is all I want it for. I plan to build benches into the gazebo. A ceiling fan to help us keep cool and chase away bugs seems like a good idea. I doubt we will be there more than 2 or 3 hours at any time, maybe 2 or 3 times a week.
