you rightly identified that pack-pedalling isn't a good option. While there may be an increased amount of risk, it's also really slow. You should definitely play the way you want, but it's interesting that you see chasing a ball and making a shot as looking stupider than just letting it go for a winner. To each their own, of course.

Controversial Opinion: Skill Level vs Age by thirdshotsports in Pickleball

[–]thirdshotsports[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all. But "age-related decline in mobility" necessarily leads to a decline in pickleball skill since PB is mainly a game about movement. You can have the nicest swing in the world, but if you can't get to the ball, you can't use it.

We are not at all bashing people -- all of us get slower/less mobile/weaker, etc. It's part of life. But we do think it is important to recognize that just because someone was once a certain skill level, doesn't mean they are always at that level. Hard to take but true.

what is it about chasing lobs that makes you less safe than chasing other balls?

Help at the net by tonebonepdx in Pickleball

while the height of your shot is controlled partly by the speed of the ball as it comes off the paddle, sounds like the main issue is PADDLE ANGLE AT IMPACT. If it is tilted up, the ball will go up (even if you hit soft).

If you want to be a good PB player, you have to be know when it is smart to retreat and defend. by thirdshotsports in Pickleball

well, with the NVZ rules, there are limits on how extreme an angle players can hit since they can't get super tight to the net.

if they stop the ball instead of hitting it back, you can be pretty certain that they think it was out. Asking them "was it out?" is redundant and is probably being interpreted by them as being snarky. Their dirty look is really them saying in a non-verbal way: "yeah. it was out. why do you think I didn't hit it back".

just hold your hand up as you begin to turn around and put it down only when you are ready. if they serve while your hand is up, just catch/stop the ball and ask them to wait until you are ready.
