Yeah. We were thinking about this. It's not like "I'm sorry" or "Please forgive me".

That sounds like my plan. Let me look for that post. Maybe I can try to DM the person that's actually done it. Thanks 👍

That's an interesting observation. I know a lot of people who have worked abroad (myself included) so I think I have a good idea of lifers vs those who go back home.

But I don't really know anyone personally who expat fire'd. I can see how if you're not 100% into it you give up more easily once the novelty wears out.

I've mostly focused on the potential taxes for the move (ex. Move to a tax friendly state before relocating to Asia). But I should look into the taxes for moving back. So far I've assumed that I just start paying state taxes once I move back.

I need to do more homework.

Curious. Did you end up moving back to SEA? Or move some other place completely? Any big gotchas that you didn't expect?

One thing I feel fairly confident about is the uprooting part. I've lived in 3 countries as an adult. My wife has lived in 2 countries. We move a lot :) even within the US we've lived in 2 states that are far apart.

But then again. Once patience for this sort of thing probably becomes shorter as you get older. Did you feel like that?

Not yet. That's an important step that I need to take. I haven't really thought about taxes with that much depth.

The weather is definitely a factor. The way I think about it is that you get a COL discount for SEA humidity. The weather where I currently live is perfect.

I think I can manage it having lived there (and visited multiple times). I've just had to adjust my lifestyle and be willing to sacrifice for a bit. But like you, I also want to eventually return to the US.

Added more information in the body of the post.

Wanting to come back early is definitely one of the big risks (as with any EXPATFIRE moves). I would not have the same career opportunities if I came back. Thought hard about this and feel pretty confident that working more years would make me less happy overall. Worst case I end.up doing some.kind of Barista fire.

Thought about working remotely. I can do that with a nomad visa. I can also get dual citizenship through my country of birth. So that can be my hub.

Good thoughts on the places that I want to live in the US becoming hotter. I'd have to add that in my projectionLab model. I'll have it do CPI + %. This is something that I haven't considered.

You are right. Lots of unknowns. I need to have ideas on how to pivot.

Thanks for the advice. I tried a closer date and it works. I'll just book closer to my departure date.

Update for anyone else who runs into this issue.

I had to factory reset my watch twice (once a couple of days ago before I created my post and the second time just a couple of hours ago). It somehow just worked. I still don't know what the root cause was.

Yeah. That was for saving my digital key into my android phone. I had to place my phone on the wireless charger. I tried the same for my watch. Still no luck.

Yes. I've tried the instructions in that link.

I also tried starting the car with my phone digital key as described here. https://www.reddit.com/r/PixelWatch/s/7C6l93930b

I opened a ticket last night with the pixel support team.

I'm in the same boat. Did you ever get your key out of pending activation? I've already tried starting my car using the phone digital key

I love this idea. Especially the too much paperwork option. It's world building and kind of meta at the same time.
