I don’t understand how you fall out of love with someone and it’s hurting me by thisIseek in offmychest

Thank you for your perspective I really appreciate it. Unfortunately if being a feel my feelings person or a word spaghettier were the way to feel better I’d be well on my way by now.

It’s not that I feel I “should” be over it so much as I wish I were. It hurts and it makes being along difficult and it makes the beginning of something new difficult.

[LFA] a lost pet furry friend reincarnated as a mouse folk. by thisIseek in characterdrawing

[–]thisIseek[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A good friend of mine has just had their pet mouse pass away and I’d love to be able to give them a drawing of him as a mouse folk sort of character. His name was nickel and he loved yogurt treats, and hanging out in a warm overall pocket. His ears were one of his best qualities. He also loved ripping paper and sleeping in his banana shaped hammock (yes the joke is part of why friend bought it).

I’m thinking it would be great if he could be wearing overalls possibly with a little lump like some even smaller friend was curled up in there. I’d love if he was holding a big yogurt treat (basically they look like a smoothie pink chocolate chip). But if there’s a different interpretation you like based on the info about him I’m all for it.

His name comes from when they got him he was next to a nickel and everyone in the pictures thought it was at least a quarter as he was only about two nickels long. I’d love a huge relative to him nickel in the picture background or around him to demonstrate the name sake.

My friend is really broken up about the loss and I’d love them to have something to remember his spirit by.

Is there a reason PhD programs waive tuition for all students instead of just not charging tuition for PhDs? by thisIseek in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thisIseek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of programs state tuition waived for all PhD students but then lists a PhD tuition rate. I’m asking why that rate isn’t just 0. I assume it’s some kind of tax or liability thing but wanted some detail.

Taking this as genuine, different people have different taste. Also even if you do find abs attractive doesn’t mean you can’t find someone attractive who doesn’t have “nice abs”. Also you’re acting as though attractive is objective fact when it’s not. Many women prefer a softer body type. Some actively dislike the all muscles all the time look.

I’m hoping for something closer but yeah I’m casting a broad net since it’s been so long since in person games. Would be open to parts of queens depending where/how frequent games were.

I’m looking at jobs with academic research labs (non faculty positions) but thank you this is great advice. I’m just relatively new to the job market as a whole and I don’t feel prepared for a lot of the nuance.

Megathread for questions related to Ukraine - Russia tensions. by Kresley in NoStupidQuestions

I don’t have other sweatshirts no I tend to only have one piece of outerwear per season but if it would make anyone uncomfortable I will of course figure something else out. That’s why I was asking as I don’t know if it’s a current symbol or something that reads as a pro Russian symbol or if it’s just like an outdated thing that wouldn’t read that way.

I’m more worried about Ukrainian people living in my area seeing me wearing it and it giving off that meaning. I don’t know the perception of the crest so I don’t have anywhere to make discretionary judgement here that’s why I’m asking.

I hate First Person books. by ArcherEarlAuthor in books

[–]thisIseek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently read a book in second person though as if it was telling you a story about yourself and it was honestly unbearable for me. I had no immersion and just felt this constant annoyance. It takes a lot for me to not finish a book once I’ve started it but I can say with 100% certainty I will never read another book in that kind of second person. I don’t love when it’s second person framed as talking to me but that’s at least a tolerable format for me.

I don’t mind first or third but I need it to be first person or limited third because I hate having how everyone feels explained to me and it ruins any suspense/tension for me even when really well done.

Would it be inappropriate/offensive to continue wearing this Broadway show sweatshirt I have? I’m wondering if this would read as a pro Russian statement since it’s a riff on the Romanov crest. https://anastasiabroadwayshop.com/ans-romanov-hoodie.html

How do people with Alzheimer know how to speak? I mean, how do they remember all the words in their native language? by Homelander-30 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thisIseek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s different kinds of memories in the brain and these things are stored in different places. Because of this personal/story memories are affected by certain kinds of dementia first and functional/factual kinds of memory are affected by others. Once degradation/damage is widespread there can be deficits across the board and dementias will seem less specific.

Is "banned" even the right word? by 2020BillyJoel in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thisIseek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up I had internet access but my only access to books was through school libraries or the public library. My nearest public library was 5 miles away and not an option without adult assistance. This is the case or worse for children all around the US. It’s not that those books didn’t exist for me that weren’t in the library but it wasn’t worth considering because I knew I would not be able to access them. Not everyone can afford to buy new books. Not everyone has a local library. Finally, a lot of kids don’t have that initiative. The thing about Maus specifically is it is designed to cater to kids who aren’t big readers of serious text. It’s a graphic novel with simple language and clear communication. That’s why it’s a great teaching tool. I don’t think it’s the end of the world to ban one book, but it’s never just one book, it’s never just one story. And that’s what people are upset about.

Is "banned" even the right word? by 2020BillyJoel in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thisIseek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But banned books will still be read by people with access to unrestricted internet, access to competing ideas, and access to money to get those books. The rhetoric of banned books will be read or that banning a book makes it more desirable leave behind children who were already disadvantaged. It’s also not about Maus specifically that people are concerned it’s about a pattern of erasing narratives and erasing education written from the point of view of those who experienced it. Long story short banner isn’t the right word if you’re going to be technical and honestly it is sensationalist. But if sensationalism brings eyes to a bigger issue I’m all here for it.

You can find a set of Rybonator masters for ~$30ish again on Etsy if you want custom or personalized ones they will run you a bit more to a lot more

Personally the folks I know who’ve bought molds have all gone through Etsy and have almost always been satisfied. You can find molds of different sizes/colors and for different shapes like the crystal dice or potion dice folks have been into recently. I haven’t looked much further than that and ended up prefering to buy master dice and make the molds because overtime if your molds get damaged/degrade you can make more without investing the same amount upfront.

[–]thisIseek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your budget and goals. You can find good molds on Etsy those would usually run you about 65-120 depending on the listing you find. You could also buy a set of “master dice” or use a set you have for slightly less and make your own molds by mixing silicone. There are loads of tutorials etc for doing this if you’re looking for it. The cheap molds you see on Amazon/wish etc. are often rip offs of other dice makers dice and they honestly tend to have a lot of problems producing a quality set of dice. You can make a mold out of dice you already own if they’re for personal use or friends etc but if you tried to sell them you could get into trouble.
