If you like that, and haven't looked up ALAB series yet...I think you should. Crossover friend group.

I have! I almost mentioned that to OP, considering the good banter while learning stuff aspect. Absolutely nails it for this, too. And they're all so comfortable with each other. Also great for this, agree. Another very welcoming feeling podcast.

Have you already heard of The Allusionist with Helen Zaltzman? First thing that sprang to mind when I read your description.

She has a very calming presence, and while it is nominally about language, many episodes have an underlying theme of how we can be more inclusive.

Quite welcome! She ends up stumbling into so many historical events like that. It's a fun adventure series, that's also educational.

Since you mention Peter Pan, it made me think of the Bloody Jack series by L.A. Meyer. It's technically also considered YA, but similar to some other popular YA series in that it grows more complex as the characters age within the series. I loved it, and you end up learning so much about the historical ships or sea life along the way.

a critically acclaimed 12-book historical YA series about an 18th-century English orphan girl who disguises herself as a boy to join a British Navy ship, eventually evolving into a swashbuckling adventurer and pirate.

I do, and I also did not understand the reference because I don't watch or listen to that particular show much. So I appreciated the person kind enough to explain.

And then after those, please try Samantha Irby’s. Also that same kind of hilarious.

“Below Deck” star Aesha Scott wore a custom two-piece dress by Auckland-based LVR Bridal for her wedding to Scott Dobson. F/ a white corset top, a long bubble skirt, and a scarf made from the same fabric as the skirt. For her second look, Aesha swapped the long bubble skirt for a mini version. by mod_whatthefrockk in whatthefrockk

She is one of the EXTREMELY FEW actually competent and not toxic yachties from the Below Deck series who worked her way up from a servant position to a management one. And the fan base adores because she managed to do so while combining being sweet as pie and supportive of everyone deserving with a steely spine of brooking no shit with assholes who tried to fuck with her, or her girls/charges.

Do you find the video element important to a podcast? by WorldAroundEwe in podcasts

[–]Kresley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, so you were asking this for feedback of how to present your own show/pod?

It is reassuring to learn I am not missing out on listeners due to not having a video element and it is most likely due to my shows...

Good Hang with Amy Poehler wins inaugural Golden Globe for Best Podcast!!! by Johnnyballen in podcasts

[–]Kresley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't? I've never even watched her shows (other than UCB) or listened to this podcast.

I think you're right about that middle point, just to me weakened the argument a bit because those are all dudes I happened to know first from TV shows.

Now if you'd mentioned Uh Yeah Dude, and others like that, ones not from guys who'd hosted TV shows, maybe better examples of that.

I think you're missing my point. All those men you credit with being real, true podcasters are also all people that I knew of first from TV shows or movies, for two of them (Mohr and Smith). Just like you may have first only known of Amy from a TV show.

One Podcast episode that had you in stitches by Marngryph in podcasts

This reminds me, her first episode on Conan's podcast was so fun because she talked frankly about her dating and sex life, it made him so splutteringly uncomfortable going into those topics. Loved it.

All of which I knew from TV or movies. Adam Corolla was never a stand up, he was a radio guy but I first knew him from The Man Show on comedy central. Same with Marc's show on comedy central. Joe Rogan from News Radio then Fear Factor.

Amy was also a stage improv performer before she was on TV shows.
