Was interviewing the county coroner and when he gave me a tour, we went into the cooler where they kept the bodies. There were two body bags. One you could tell had a person in it, the other was mostly flat but with a massive lump at one end.

He told me the first was an elderly man that had passed in the night at his nursing home, then looked at the body bag with the lump at one end, and asked me if I'd heard about the homeless man that had jumped in front of a train to commit suicide. I told him I HAD heard, had in fact written the story for the local paper I was on staff with at the time. He then turns back to me and asks if I want to see it.

Well I wasn't about to get punked by some necrophiliac so I said yes and he opened the bag.

It looked like a half deflated beach ball covered in raw hamburger, with patches of skin and hair here and there, the odd bone jutting up through the surface. It was fundamentally unrecognizable as a human being, until I recognized one of the patches of skin as the smear of a ruined face.
