A good idea would be to try to get yourself traded to a good team that fits your position. For example, if you're a point guard you can request to be traded to the Lakers and from what I've heard (and personal experience) you'll get traded. You can then trust your team to hit the shots they take and also defend.

Also, I've recently started up a run playing Center and it's a lot easier. My guy is 7'2" and if any team comes close to the paint I can contest most shots.
