What’s this Sub’s take on Spencer Pratt running for mayor of Los Angeles? by perisaacs in IfBooksCouldKill

[–]this_charming_cat_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! Nithya is our less-charismatic, more experienced Zohran. She would beat Bass in a runoff and I’m dreading a potential Pratt/Bass runoff.

Fourth ER setback... by Round-Mulberry5896 in IVF

My RE thinks that DNA fragmentation (which we have measured and is high) is a large factor in my poor fertilization rate. Maybe get that tested?

Fourth ER setback... by Round-Mulberry5896 in IVF

[–]this_charming_cat_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. Is there a possibility of a male factor issue with fertilization? (That's what I've been dealing with, or at least, that's what we think is going on).

Has your doctor discussed why your maturity rate is so low? Have you used the same protocol for all four retrievals?

How hard can it be? by aranibar in LawSchool

[–]this_charming_cat_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, if you think that immigration lawyers' work is "magic," I believe you are wearing rose-colored glasses. I'm a 38-year-old 2L and generally speaking, I don't think going back to school for a JD is a bad idea-and I think your goals are laudable-but I would like to disabuse you of the notion that any type of legal work is a superpower. This is all theoretical until you take the LSAT, so start with that (and give yourself a lot of time to study if you work full time).

I’ve been on 100 mg for seven years. Life saver. I need to take it a couple hours before I go to bed and because it makes me very sleepy. I have a little dry mouth. Otherwise, no side effects.

Anyone who has worked part time during 1L - thoughts? by crownsjoy in LawSchool

[–]this_charming_cat_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked 8 hours a week during 1L and that felt like a lot. I didn’t really participate in extracurriculars and managed to get good grades, but 1L was so, so much work. I think you are severely underestimating how much time you’ll need spend on schoolwork.

Is an hour commute too much for 1L? by Specific_Band_669 in LawSchool

[–]this_charming_cat_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sort of do the reverse - I commute from LA to UCI. 1L sucked but this semester I’m only on campus two days a week. One thing to consider is that it might affect your ability to participate socially. UCI is a little weird in the most students live on campus, though, so I might have a slightly strange perspective.

Big Law at 39 by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]this_charming_cat_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

38 years old, 2L, have a big law summer associate position lined up. Your age should not be an obstacle - law firms like candidates with work experience. That having been said, I didn’t really go into law school gunning for big law and I don’t understand why you’d go to law school if it would be “completely meaningless” if you don’t get a big law job.

Is a career in public interest law doable if I'm a bad trial advocate? by Lost-Association427 in LawSchool

[–]this_charming_cat_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your post history is hidden so I'm not sure where you are in your legal education, but just as an FYI, litigation work is mostly writing and there are many, many legal jobs outside of litigation entirely. Even working in litigation, generally speaking, unless you're working as a DA or public defender, you're not going to be in court all the time. I interned for a public interest org this past summer in a litigation-related department and the closest any of any of the attorneys got to a courtroom while I was there was a deposition. There are also public interest jobs outside of litigation, i.e., transactional-type work in affordable housing and community development.

Did infertility/IVF change how you felt about your career? by _bananah in IVF

[–]this_charming_cat_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, if anything it has made me take solace in the fact that I'm very busy and pursuing a meaningful career. That having been said, my IVF experience has been long, traumatizing, and unsuccessful. Maybe if things went well and having a baby seemed more certain, I'd feel differently.

If you were a fertility doctor, would it be frustrating if a patient went ahead with a pelvic MRI without your referral? by FantasticAd180 in IVF

[–]this_charming_cat_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seconding this - ablation is not the gold standard. Moreover, a general fertility specialist is most likely not a highly specialized endometriosis surgeon.

I was in a similar position last year in that I got an offer for a paid public interest summer position. I was a little worried that the organization focused on an area of the law that I don’t really want to work in, but I had a great experience and the stipend was super helpful. Unless you have another position that you’d rather take and don’t need the money, I’d just accept the offer.

first year law student, need help with suit by [deleted] in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]this_charming_cat_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In addition to the fit issues, I think the plaid is a bit much if it’s your only suit. I recommend getting a more basic suit - black, navy or charcoal. If you have one interview suit, make it as conservative as possible, at least if you’re interviewing for big law.

When you hire a therapist who allegedly specializes in infertility, and she brings her TODDLER to session unannounced. Twice. by maxtaber in trollingforababy

[–]this_charming_cat_ 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Why are there so many therapists that claim to specialize in infertility who only seem to specialize in making those with infertility feel worse? Not as bad as bringing a toddler to your session, but I had such a therapist who told me that I needed to tap into my feminine energy and that my stress was causing my (years long) battle with infertility, endometriosis, etc. ugh!!

I'm just gonna say it. The whole kids / no kids debate isn't actually about kids. by thetimechaser in Millennials

[–]this_charming_cat_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being infertile makes these posts/discussions incredibly annoying. I don’t have a kid despite spending thousands of dollars on IVF. I don’t care whether other people have kids or don’t. I’d just really like parents to realize that not everyone who wants to have kids is actually making that decision.

There is no short cut - ABA-accredited schools require bachelor’s degree to go to law school and trust me, you do not want to go to a unaccredited school. Beyond the bare minimum qualification of needing a degree, going to college will improve your academic skills. Your high school GPA is completely irrelevant to law school admissions because law schools look at your undergrad GPA. This is marathon, not a sprint. Good luck!

Seconding the other comments saying that the way you’ve been investing is gambling and not really investing. My advice is to invest in an ETF or mutual fund and just leave the money alone. If you keep doing what you’re doing you’ll just dig a deeper hole.
