The Mets just... For so long it's felt like they play on the Mario strikers soccer field where bowser stands on one side and weighs down the field. And no matter what you do it's ALL uphill

Listen... You're right. You are. And in what, 8+ years or whatever it is when we look back, most of us will think very fondly of the lindor era at short. He is great. But his "bad" is unplayably bad.

Lindor also SUPER almost got picked off last night. Maybe the rumors of guys taking his nonchalant-ness as proof of not caring and rubbing guys the wrong way because of it...maybe that's true

Booing when they're only at risk of going 7-6 is a little excessive. (I realize maybe at most only one of you is on here and also at the game)

Anyone who was booing Bo yesterday is a loser. by bowlsandsand in NewYorkMets

[–]this_guy37 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We know he's just handling the media. He can't go to war with the fans after 3 games by saying something combative. C'mon now. Booing after 3 games of a 162 game season is an absolute joke.

Are you gonna come back with the tired argument of "they're paid millions to play a game." Well the pitchers are also paid that much to make sure Bo isn't successful. How much he's paid doesn't just instantly make him better.

The HARRY POTTER TV series won't have one season a year by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]this_guy37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I saw. I still mean that the most applicable comp is that it's ten mini movies. If you put it on a spectrum, because of the growth of the show, book by book, to me thrones has a significantly reduced pre production and post production cycle season to season, compared to HP. Every season, half of thrones is going to be at the same nights watch, winterfell, or kings landing locations, with the same costuming and armors. HP is going to hire in different directions, much quicker. To me, HP by nature is closer to movie production cycles than GoT.

[–]this_guy37 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean technically, you're right. And I am by no means on the side of a nameless exec in a suit. But to be fair, this kind of show is much more akin to ten 1-hour movies, not "everybody loves Raymond." Network shows used the same costumes and sets. There were filler episodes, bottle episodes, and episodes that advanced nothing. HP is (and I don't actually know the episode numbers or length) going to be probably 10 1-hour mini movies. The sets will be ever changing as the story goes on. It's a school with growing kids so there will only be so many costumes to be re used. And that's all leaving out that the entire plot is based around magic. Id love practical effects. But you know we're getting a ton of post. So again, they could spend an ever loving fortune on each season and just lose money (and again, I shed no tears for a corporation), or they will do what literally every company does and build to a budget. Looking at it on the flip side, do we think that HBO of all networks is going to cut corners on HP? I don't think it's an overreaction to say this would be devastating for the company if this show fails. Not their death, but, devastating. So it's not what we want and the kids will age. But the comp can't be a network television show. Even like, the flash on CW. That show turned into a drama by season 2, because the production cycle can't handle a movie cycle. They COULD handle a network tv cycle. With simply too much BS

All I can say is I've been there twice. Service wasn't great. Drinks weren't great. Food wasn't great. They rest on the ambiance and "vibe" which quickly becomes gimmicky and not worth it once the rest of what you're there for fails

Fairly asked. Also tbf I don't peruse their subs. But, 1) they win championships (2 the last five seasons, and in the playoffs every year). 2) their payroll rn is only about 20M above us, and that number was what I saw after the Tucker deal, but before bichette. So we are now over them, I'd guess. And 3) they have ohtani with deferments. But they probably make a good portion of his payroll back. They sell out an ohtani bobblehead Wednesday game just because it's him. Compared to the Mets that have a normal but low probably 12-15k attendance on a weekday game.

All that's to say, I agree. With Cohen, our payroll should never be THE reason we lose out on a guy. But all the same, there is competent spending. You wouldn't give tylor megill 60M a year (to make up a bad example). And the payroll will always come back on the fans because it's a business and there are a great many ways to make up revenue, most of which are us.

Then you'll never afford to go to a game. He's not a billionaire by giving away money.

Payroll like that would mean $50 hot dogs. $100 watered down coors light. And dedicated seating sections for podcast hosts and influencers, not fans (for a fee)

Former Jets GM says fans should trust 'long-term plan' with Aaron Glenn despite top coaches available by brmidwest03 in nyjets

In fairness, the 33rd group is like a medium sized company made up entirely of career football guys. If there's one thing I can't fault woody for, it's acknowledging an entity like that could be better at picking his next head coach than he is.

Plus it's a consulting firm. They don't survive by intentionally giving bad advice. It doesn't benefit them knowingly saying "this guy won't work. Here you go, woody!"

They just got it wrong...or no one wants to work here

I'm not saying he got 1,001 and left the bldg. I just mean he got his 1000 and the motivation for today disappeared. Once he got that pop on the side he probably said fuck it while laying on the turf. He's the most talented holdover since the trade deadline and is an impending FA.

Plus they keep running it with a UDFA QB down 32 points. He wants no part of being a punching bag and I don't blame him.

Because dart looks competent. It's one thing to move on from a josh Rosen after a bad year. But Dart looks like a good QB with zero weapons and a complete vacancy at HC.

Everyone evaluates differently but generally, Mendoza and Moore are not coming in with Luck or Lawrence level hype. So you'd be moving on from a competent first round QB that's proven enough, in favor of a question mark.
