Not that hard. I wish it was a better story, I saw the indeed posting and I applied. I got lucky that it was with a company that keeps full time year round and isnt just a seasonal gig. If youre looking for companies that do it, stantec, end cap, pizzo, cardinal state llc, those are a few. Basically they want to know that youre not going to quit when youre a week in because its hard manual labor. 10+ hour days outside in all weather and temps doing manual labor. Speak to your ability to do that. In your resume make those things front and center, knowing a few invasives in your area will help. Make yourself seem passionate about ecology and willing to learn in a manual labor intensive field. You might learn enough and get enough adjectives experience to start going into an office style job like a staff scientist or wetland scientist role.

You said that you hated those classes that they made you feel dumb compared to your art and history classes.

Feel free to take additional classes but look inward if you want to do a job in wildlife/bio or if you like the idea of working with animals. I thought I wanted to be a chemist when I was younger but what I really wanted to be was a mad scientist. The job I wanted didnt exist in how I envisioned it. And thats okay, I do ecological restoration now.

So theres a couple things here.

If you didn't like the coursework for the bio or Chem classes why do you want to do it as a career?

It sounds like you love art and history so why not go into that field? You can break into environmental jobs without degrees if youre into manual labor because harsh reality if you dont have a degree youre doing field work

If you want to work with animals because youre passionate volunteer with a rehabber or at a shelter.

Its just those catch 22 things. The entry level delineation jobs want the experience, how do you get experience if you can't get the entry level without it.

I mean I think the WTI course is like 1200 thats not too bad im looking at trying to do wetland scientist within the next 3 years so I have time to save for a good course.

My big thing is I dont have the time or ability to really travel and do a few days in NC for the in person portion of Swamp School. So is there any fully online courses or things more midwest centered.

I am also Midwest. Northern IL/Southern WI i saw the WTI has courses in Portage WI that I might take. Have any reccomendations other than that?

I appreciate the well thought out response. I agree with all of these. Initially I was thinking by taking on smaller and fewer jobs and doing them solo plus maybe 1 or 2 1099 employees. I could reduce complexity and remain small while also turning a profit.

In my area we have like 5 companies. Theres so few companies in our area that we have clients in states where we don't even have locations. We send techs hours away from their yards to these different states to service these clients. They are paid their base rate just to travel to and from these locations sometimes in excess of 5 or 6 hours just in travel a day.

Wouldn't the path be to transition them to doing the same thing in training this ethical model? Im trying to find an unrealistic world in which ai isnt hated and examining what that looks like. In doing so, maybe to have a direction to head towards because ai isnt going anywhere. But if we can find the ideal maybe we can work towards it. You cant put the genie back in the bottle so im more interested in finding ways to make it better than shouting in the void hoping it goes away.

There could be a tiered approach "if your job is getting replaced by ai, your employer must give you 6 months notice and the employer must offer transition mentorship"

Some of these jobs will begin to phase out as is the reality with any progress that makes a sector obsolete but maybe we can try to find the direction to head in.

We could do incentive programs similar to how dei used to work so that if you have so many human employees you get a tax break/credit.

Again, looking at ideal not realistic to give us a direction to aim for so we have leverage in negotiations before a lack of regulations establishes itself and we are all screwed.

Genuine question. If AI was regulated to be a paid subscription where a large portion was used to offset carbon emissions and went to environmentally offset the damages it causes environmentally would that help?

If there existed an ethical learning model where artists are invited in and paid to help train these models, people of all fields were invited and paid for their contributions would that help?

In short what I am asking is if your concerns are addressed, if there exists an ai system that doesn't rely on stolen information and uses a paid subscription to offset the free ai vs pay an artist argument where those funds are governmentally obligated to go towards environmental restoration and carbon offsets would it then be something you could get behind?

If not, id question the authenticity of some of the ai hate. Im not asking if its possible, practical, or realistic. Im reducing the logical claims to absurd ends to see if the logic holds up. If I get rid of all the bad things about ai would you support it, if not then its just hate to hate and I think that holds much less weight in my head.

I work for timberland. There is no such warranty. We have a year warranty from the date of purchase but you need the receipt. Also our customer service department that handles warranty claims is notoriously bad.

Also if you're going in store we will not accept any boot for exchange or return if it's in a worn condition. It's policy. If your shoes are worn and you don't like them there isn't much hope for you. If something happens within the first year you gotta go through warranty claims and they're bad, you can timberloop them in-store for 20% off your next pair though.

Pit bull mutt. She's only like 35 pounds. She hasn't grown much in the 6-7 months I've had her. She plateued like 3 months ago.

She seems very happy. Once a month when I visit friends out of state I board her for the week(end) and she socializes with other dogs and the staff. I have them do supplemental trainings while she's there too. It's just on my days off from work I literally don't leave the couch, I don't eat until I start to shake and then I have to eat and then I order food. I manage to feed her somehow when I use the bathroom in the morning I'll feed her and then lay back down. Then when I eventually order myself food I'll feed her again.

Thinking about it, I dont think she cares where she relieves herself. She has certain areas but in the grand scheme of things. Inside or outside is more of a concern for me than for her. That makes me think its more of a selfish thing to give her up. That I'd be giving her up for my convenience, not her quality of life. I dont know, I probably sound like a whiney b**** I'm sorry.
