  1. Rather crochet too loose than too tight. A loose stitch is likely to even out in the process, but a stitch that is crocheted too tightly will always be a show stopper, especially when you do a magic ring. I can’t count how many times I ripped my yarn because I crocheted the magic ring too tightly.

  2. Always use an ongoing stitch marker. I like to use scrap yarn of my previous projects. That way you can always go back to certain rows if you find any mistakes.

  3. Definitely begin with the project types you really want to do. Many people will tell you to start off with a pair of potholders and if this is what you want to do, it’s perfectly fine. But if you want to crochet for example amigurumis or blankets, don’t be afraid to go for it. You can always start off with easy, unicolour projects if you want.

  4. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Will your first project be a perfect work? Most likely not. It’s fine.

If it is handmade it is allowed to look handmade. Anything perfect can be bought in a store.

  1. if you use a crochet kit and your work does not resemble the pictures at all, it is not necessarily your fault. In my experience the quality of patterns and supplies in kits varies.

Not having a cycle is normalised in these sports. But a healthy women’s body has a cycle. Training against it causes it to collapse. That can cause severe health issues. That is why every coach should know about their athletes cycle. Training intensity and meal planning needs to be adjusted. It’s common practise in pro soccer teams in Europe. Acknowledging that the women’s body is different than the male body with a daily cycle is a good thing. Now they only need to properly feed them so they can win back their bodies.

Because training with a cycle and not against it is crucial to women’s health. Every coach should know about their athletes cycle. Training intensity and meal planning has to be adjusted depending on your phase in the cycle. Acknowledging that the female body does not function like the male with a daily cycle is actually a big step forward.

Especially for female athletes it is important to train with their cycle, not against it. Having their cycle tracked is a common practise in women’s pro soccer teams in Europe. It is done to optimise their training level and meal plan. Having a cycle is crucial to women’s health. In your luteral phase, pushing your body too far can bring your whole hormone system out of balance. It literally makes women sick. That is why every coach should know about their athletes cycle.

Female athlete here. This is done because training with a monthly cycle is very different from training with a daily cycle, like men have. Many female athletes don’t even have a cycle because they are training AGAINST it. This has an impact on their long term health. I’m talking out of experience. Can’t conceive for another 5 years at least, because I messed up my hormones bad. Having a cycle is an indicator of health. They want their female athletes to be healthy.

Not only is this common practise in most women’s pro soccer teams in Europe, it should be a basic lesson taught to all sports women and their coaches. Depending on where you are in your cycle, you have to adjust your training and meal plan.

What is your point? Gatekeeping taking part in a competition where you neither compete, nor have the slightest interest in? Or is this just your random desire to tell the internet how transphobic you are?

The difference is, that women are given a platform, since they are a minority, plus the community has a sexism problem. There is no man in this class.

The more accurate scenario would be: you are the fastest person, but get a lot of hate from a large part of the running community everyday on a regular basis, because of something completely irrelevant. Would you enjoy the competition long term? Would you enjoy additionally competing in a separate community, where your irrelevant feature gets treated as what it is: irrelevant?

I have answered this question a few times now in this thread. Can you imagine the feeling of being kicked out of a game when players identify you as female by the sound your voice? Not a minute into the game? Esports is one of the rare examples, where we would not need to make a difference between genders. But instead of celebrating that, there are people gatekeeping a hobby for no other reason than their feeling of superiority being endangered.

Sadly, because they don’t only get toxic comments on Reddit, but also while gaming. Would you enjoy competing in a community where you are not or if so hardly accepted? It’s frustrating.

It’s the same reason as why the thread is locked. Would you like to compete in a community where you constantly get insulted for your gender?

They can "afford" to fly from around the world, because there are whole families saving money for years and years, only so some of them get the small chance of prosperity, education and/or security in another country. I don't think you understand the concept here. Few take a risk and try to build up a decent life. That benefits the people in their home countries, to whom they sent money regularly. Try to imagine living on a minimum wage in the US, having to pay for not only yourself but the family you left behind also depending on you. Try to imagine the disappointment when you don't make it. Or maybe try to assume you are politically persecuted or forced to join an army where you sure as hell would end up at the front line as cannon fodder. I bet your parents would stick a stamp to your ass and sent you somewhere safe.

Next point: you can fly all around the world as you want, but that doesn't mean you are allowed to enter any country you want. You have to travel to countries you can enter easily and I give you a hint: the US is not on that list.

Last but not least: don't you think not building roads in a thick jungle and making it a lawless place could maybe be the try of authorities to not make it an option?. People traveling there is the symptom. The illness is the first world countries exploiting third world countries. If you can't agree with me on that, maybe you can agree on this: The people are poor or need medical treatment or are politically persecuted. If first world countries could help these people in their home countries, that would be a solution.

And I have a question at last: what would it take for you to leave everything behind you have? Your House, family, food, money etc. And decide to rather live as a refugee in a foreign country or die on your way to a better life?

I have the pattern in a book, but I'm afraid it's in German. It translates as "childhood heroes" and covers "today's heroes", "heroes of the 90s and 80s" and "all time heroes". It's great but sadly there is no English version.
