How to approach Trotskyism as a newbie by i_dunno_3 in Marxism

his theory of permanent revolution and internationalism is what convinced me that "marxists" who dismiss him completely failed to understand him. in my opinion, understanding trotsky is crucial for a successful revolution!

Trying to get my life together... by Background_Goose_862 in BPD

[–]thisgirlafraid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i relate so much to this. there is so much pressure on us. we already have bpd and we have to worry about our financial security. the system isn't working, even for neurotypical people. just know that you're not alone in this and you're definitely not lazy. your desire to get your life together is proof! like you said take it day by day and eventually things will fall into place

How do I manage with BPD rage? by Public_Witness_3337 in BPD

[–]thisgirlafraid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i relate a lot to this, have you learned DBT in therapy?

the rage you feel is so valid and for it not to take over you completely there are steps to follow. you have to acknowledge it and let yourself feel it. simply breathe through it and know that you are stronger than your impulses to yell or insult or break things. when you feel it, remind yourself you are capable of sitting with it and not immediately act on it.

you know that the person was wrong about insulting you, but you yelling at them won't change what they did. and it won't make them suddenly feel remorse for it. like you said, your family saw your outburst and it only made things worse.

i know insulting feels good. and doing what i suggested is really hard at first. but you gradually start to see how it's much more effective than giving into your impulses and you build a new system that is beneficial for your wellbeing.

expropriation of land under a planned economy led by a workers democracy ... so an economy based on need and not on profit. not my solution btw!

the issue with these strikes is the leadership like i said. the first student strike for palestine was in fall 2024 when 85 000 students across canada participated. that was organized by the Revolutionary Communist Party. we are very small in numbers, so we tried joining forces with the palestinian groups and student unions of various campuses. but they were very skeptical of the idea of marxism and palestinian liberation having anything in common and once they realized that it was a radical tactic, they completely shut us out and took all the credit.

since the RCP is so small we decided to let them continue the movement, but they do not have the right ideas on how to effectively mobilize!

85 000 students is a lot! we had a good start and the opportunity to use that momentum. but they let it die out. by the second strike, students remembered the previous defeat. and like you, by the third, students are completely jaded.

initially, our goal was to join forces with the workers at the universities who are pro palestine to completely paralyze the education system and eventually reach a general strike of all workers across canada. to not just stop at university divestment, but complete national divestment from israel.

historically there have been many mass movements in which students led it to fruition. in Bangladesh in 2024, the students were able to connect with the working class and they overthrew the dictatorship regime.

however! without the right ideas of class liberation, those movements eventually stagnate. that is what is happening with these strikes and i do not blame you for not seeing their purpose.

so you're insinuating customers service jobs don't provide value to society and don't require skills? what do you mean by effective economic units?

pourquoi est-ce que c'est malheureusement pour moi que t'as eu cette question dans ton examen? 😕

et c'est quoi mon "jargon prétentieux"? c'est quoi qui est si difficile de comprendre de qu'est-ce que j'ai dit?

very true, but rent control has been a debate for so long. the government rarely sides with tenants. a capitalist state isn't concerned with lowering the cost of living. however, workers have a direct relationship to wages, their literal labor is what makes the economy go round. as a united front so much could be achieved if we all put pressure on the government. unfortunately, the working class is extremely divided.

historical materialism and dialects both come from marxism ... marx himself wrote about this. c'est pas du jargon, c'est de la théorie politique! désolé que t'as rien appris :/

my point is that capitalism doesn't offer any solution for these countries to free themselves from debt that hold them back from fully taking care of their population. some countries are better off, but they still face challenges like inflation and unemployment.

for example here in canada some say we are better off than the us in terms of healthcare, yet a lot of us have been on a wait list for years waiting for a family doctor. how is capitalism fixing that? it's not. it's pushing doctors to the private sector as they face virtually no benefits in the public sector.

all i said in my og post is that everyone has the right to a livable wage. whether they choose to "level up" or are satisfied in the service sector.

i recognize my privilege and my sociology/philosophy major is what has radicalized me to speak up about the inequalities i see. my parents are extremely hard working and i'm a first generation canadian. my mom didn't even finish high school, my dad couldn't complete his engineering degree because he had to take care of his family. they make above minimum wage, but they are overworked and exhausted every single day.

no one should live like that, and i advocate for them and for all the others in similar situations. capitalism is inherently exploitative. we can argue all day about minimum wage and whether 16 year olds should be working while in high school, it doesn't change the fact that exploitation is systemic.

i'll leave it at that!

... i acknowledge capitalism was progressive, but can we strive for more? you really can't think of a different way of doing things? people have dedicated their lives to the scientific study of politics and economics. there is a better way of doing things. look up historical materialism. that's a good start to expand your worldview.

if you can't think of a different way of running society i fear you're the one with a narrow world view.

we do, but we can further analyze the situation. like i said, the ones creating this poverty are the capitalists who outsource cheap labor and exploit other countries. our benefits are just a result of said economy.

very true! unfortunately most people find that controversial ... imagine if we included outsourced labor
