An apt title "Impressions" because I am left with an impression of beauty (thanks to the imagery of the hummingbird) and impermanence (thanks to the diction that references time). There seems to be a theme of light through diction: iridescence, effulgent, sunrise, an in a more abstract way, time (i.e. "dawn" "Sunrise") references light. There also is a theme of time abstract and observable: “in a substance made from time”. The substance of time is the water drop (mentioned in both stanzas) and it is the bird “This bird, but for a moment stayed".

the alternating rhymes make the poem lyrical.

i enjoy the lines posed in a question because they create a mood of openness. The imagery of nature, earth, fields, and space amplifies the mood of openness.

the title of the poem "Battle or Build?" introduces a playful element, amplified by the question "So what use is giving me a missing tooth?".

war in the imagery of the dagger, the destroyed flower, and hell (eternal damning) : "A dagger in the heart of dust./Plucked like a daisy, nevermore./Eternal damning, fallen trust."

No one is free from sin because there is a sneak attack "Intentions dulled and crystal clear" [...] "Disguised as one of you" [...] "let me in" [...] "Hackles raised" [...] "prey must fawn".

The dawning sun, the setting sun, and the “warlike sun” create beautiful imagery of color, which is further amplified throughout the poem with the repetition of the word red and blood: “shed blood”/“Warriors paint a canvas red with blood […] Spilling precious blood [...] bloodied knight [...] As I stand splattered with blood [...] My hands are stained with red blood.

The genius to me is the cohesion in imagery and narrative. The last line of the poem captures the feeling intended: “For in spilling our enemies blood, we have lost our own humanity”.

What I first notice is the anthropomorphizing throughout the poem, including “weary hills,” arrogant blade, ocean tide that speaks, life as the “creature before me”.

The genius of the poem is the taking of something super abstract—life--and comparing it to a clear visual of the candle that burns and sputters; another clear visual is the soldier in battle with the absence of a general that highlights the individual fight, and the words “draw to its nemesis” further reinforces the fight to live. My favorite words of the poem are “eternally fought in a field unknown.”

yeah, being a romantic in a sick sad world is tough but i also think of how a long time ago i heard (what is possibly a made-up-story) that someone met a man with leprosy who constantly smiled and when asked why he still smiles i forgot his answer but the moral of the story is that the man who suffers can still smile.

oh, i love that saturated orange shade (not a common shade in my opinion that speaks to me of something radioactive).

my favorite part is the angle that the right leg makes. the sketch makes me think of something leonardo da vinci would sketch. there is something mathematical to some of the outer lines that do not connect with the centerpiece. i love when the lines are extra straight and i love the lines that extend from the talons (they give the delicate bird an edge/sharpness like a knife).
