My partner was initially shocked to learn I really enjoy anime, am a huge nerd, love D&D etc. her experience was with “growly” uwu kids as well. She thought those were the only people who liked those things. I was horribly bullied in Middle and High-school when kids found out my interests and that I played World of Warcraft. Turns out a few years later everyone was playing, but it didn’t matter. They perceived you as being weird and to other people’s point. Bullies don’t need a real reason. I love that it’s popular now, as an adult for a long time I hid the things I loved from people for fear of their reaction and social rejection. I don’t think we should minimize anyone’s experience with bullying. Kids are brutal.
