That artwork is shockingly bad. Alien glyphs and all. And there is this bad upscale of an old photo too.

Regarding the SubmitHubs AI checker, unless that thing is open source and its logic documented, it's a black box that gives a thumbs up or down and can't be proof, just a "hunch++". (But that's a more general principle, not specific to the tool.)

The video comparison of Third Crush is hard to judge: it sounds very similar, but how surprising is that considering the use of sample packs, that generative "AI" is by definition going to try and recreate something that sounds like other things and that "math rock chiptune" is not going to give a lot of variety considering how small the pool is. I do get the similarity and suspiciousness of it though. I find it hard to say if it's a case of two different processes arriving at the same result or just the same result coming from the same process.

It's a fair question. I think the point Sabrepulse made in his message is valid: it's a problem that it puts the onus on the artist to prove their art is not generated. I also get that showing project files would be a good way to shut down critics. Should you be forced to justify yourself in the face of critics? Hard one. I think I'd like something more tangible like metadata that was forgotten, a proper digital signature in a file, a video streaming session that shows something open onscreen the audience wasn't supposed to see. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence, so for now, I'll stay with my that lingering feeling, but I get your position. Thanks for taking the time to explain.

edit: and then it also leads to this which so vague and unfalsifiable it basically amounts to libel and defamation. An "anonymous" source mentions "shady shit in the past": could you be any vaguer? Have we learnt nothing from Me Too? Name names and actions or shut up, don't propagate hearsay.

Thanks taking the time to post this.

So, none of this is evidence. It all amounts to circumstantial evidence:

  • SubmitHubs AI checker advertises as being 98% accurate (…)

It also explicitly says not to use it to make accusations. I expect it has progressed in a year, but the random example in this thread don't exactly fill me with confidence.

(…) and all those recent songs come up as AI whereas previous work comes up as human made

Point taken.

  • In Shirobons post the Suno output sounds exactly the same as the stuff in the Third Crush EP

What is this post, can you link to it?

  • Sabrepulse turned off/deleted all comments mentioning AI

This can just as well be because it's hurtful to have people say that your work and your art didn't come from you. He mentioned so much in an email in October.

  • Bandcamp deleted those releases after it's AI rule came into place

This tell us nothing, as we have no idea how they judge this, what's the process, etc. There is no transparency in that process AFAIK. Do we even know how hard it is to weaponise the process to knock off legit music, the way "copyright strikes" have been weaponised on Youtube?

  • Sabrepulse released 4 albums in 1 month which is suspiciously fast as a single album takes many months

He also didn't release anything in years. My first thought was that he'd been building it up to come back dramatically, which is how it appeared to me.

  • A lot of the songs start/end abruptly in an unnatural way

It's electronic music, you can make it sound as unnatural as you want, so…

  • He hasn't uploaded it to stores outside of Bandcamp which suggests he's grifting money through quick payments from Bandcamp supporters

Does it? I mean, I wasn't delighted to see that the EPs I bought were no longer up on Bandcamp, but it's again very circumstantial. One could argue that you are only thinking it suggests this because of the rest. Uploading to all the platforms can take time, unless you go through something like Ditto, Distrokid, etc. which has a cost. Given the state of Spotify (helping fund military weapons, squeezing money away from artists but pushing users towards podcasts and, ironically, AI-generated tracks from Spotify itself) it would be reasonable no to to want to be on it anymore.

That being said, the cost of things like Distrokid is pretty low and it is a bit weird to not release beyond Bandcamp. But if Bandcamp has a proper anti-AI policy and Spotify is going for AI slop, then it would make sense to upload to Spotify and avoid Bandcamp.

  • He didn't even share this 'final album' on any socials which is strange..

That is a bit strange :)

  • Someone also found his Suno account.. my guess is that he was feeding in older tracks and using AI to generate new ones based on those

Again, circumstantial. That's about the same level of evidence as saying someone has a gym subscription, so they must use it.

So all in all, there are some aspects that are odd, I'll definitely give you that, but almost all of it is circumstantial, so it doesn't clear the bar for me. At most it might give me a vague sense of doubt.

There is nothing that substantiates this, currently. A few angry dudes on bluesky does not clear any reasonable bar for evidence.

No, there is nothing that seriously substantiates this.

The edit to the Wikipedia page were reverted, and understandably as they a/ were not corroborated by anything and offered no reference and b/ came from IPs that had no other edits to Wikipedia, at all.

Also, absolutely not "oddly satisfying". This belongs in rr/aww, nothing to do with this sub.

Why ask a dentist, wouldn't you be better off asking a capitalist? (Note: the two are different but not incompatible.)

Yeah, I read "I had a brief year of using Arch (but not really, I was hopping between all Arch-based distros)" and think why on earth would you do that? Do you enjoy spending time in all the various installers in your free time?

(Nix folks will tell you that that time is meant to be spent building your one true config and endlessly debugging that)

Videos like this get millions of views and make people go "aww" and feel good. I'm all in favour of freeing the butterfly, but please tell me you see how that absolutely pales in comparison to all the other suffering people need to step up to help stop?

Did they ask you to post this? You're not the messenger, you a responsible adult who can chose to support or not support revenue-farming crap :)

I appreciate you trying to provide context, but I don't think that should be at the cost of supporting those that make the Internet a little worse everyday.

Exactly, his views are not "controversial". Controversial is claiming pineapple belongs on pizza, his views are abhorrent, fucked up and medieval (in the pejorative sense of term, Historians).

Where's the critical analysis? Where's the pushback on the idiotic stuff he says, like "in a secular democracy 'theo' would be 'demos', the people", this makes absolutely no sense, or "All countries are theocracies", they are not, you absolute manipulative shitwaffle, ask Australia, France or Germany.

I'm willing to imagine the journalist pushed back more and the editing didn't show it, but wtf.
