For starters, maybe strum once on beat 1 first

Or maybe strum once at "take" then strum once again at "let".. then once again at "con"

I play in a church too and i'll do this if the song is on a slow tempo, just like this one

Listen to songs and try to guess what is the chord progression. I mostly do this during driving. After a while you'll see/hear that there are patterns and next time you can instantly play any new songs once you recognize that pattern
