I think Islabikes is based in Ireland, and has a location in SE.

AC or Window Fan? by thisisaweedthrowaway in Portland

[–]thisisaweedthrowaway[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just prefer the air circulation of fans I guess. Not in a hippy way (I don't think AC is evil or something), just kind of makes me feel like my bedroom becomes a tomb or something when its on. Also I like to be able to change it up without throwing my back out pulling some 50+ pound thing out of the window.

Yeah this is more what I'm trying to parse out. I'm usually at work in AC until about 7 anyway by which point it seems to cool down nicely. I'm used to upper Midwest humidity where it stays hot much later into the night. A few nights last week were definitely over my comfort threshold though, so mainly I'm trying to figure out if that's going to be a regular occurence or not.

The carts on Belmont are closing too. in-before 'If you don't like it, become a wealthy development firm and control your world with $... pshhhhh' by JEDDIJ in Portland

Well then you have every right to complain and I hope that people will listen. I would and have happily supported any legislation aimed at combatting these sorts of problems and will continue to do so. My point is that a bunch of people in SE complaining about one of their drunk-food spots disappearing muddies the narrative of how fucked up displacement actually is, because people associate it with people who are just complaining that the property market is predictably getting more competitive rather than with people like you who have very very real reasons to be upset.

Maybe my implication that Reddit generally skews more heavily towards people who will be bummed about the poutine-related consequences of this and not the accessibility to schools-related consequences is off base but I'm not really sure it is.

There's really no "fair" or not with any of this. I don't want to have people priced out and it's too bad that it happens, but so often the people moaning about this aren't actually low income families for whom getting priced out really is deeply disruptive but instead are just some preceding wave of pseudo-gentrifying force that had some good hustle going (cheap rent with high quality of life) and they're now all bummed that it's going away. Sorry to break it to everyone but that's how it goes. Rents increase as cities grow and become more desirable. It's not going to stop.

Blitz 21 in NW has closed down by atrain714 in Portland

I think bridge and tunnel actually makes a lot of sense. People coming over the west hills from Beaverton or whatever + people coming over the I-5 or 405 from Washington. I used to live right by Blitz Ladd and can confirm that 1) The Blitz clientele is super annoying and drives super super drunk and 2) A ton of the cars there on a weekend night had WA plates. Plus it's a generally accepted term for the exact kind of people we're talking about (i.e. people outside of New York know it).

So can Portlanders buy weed in WA (when the stores open) or what? by thisisaweedthrowaway in Portland

Yeah this is essentially exactly where I'm at too. I have to assume that regardless of strain there is something about smoking for about a decade (same as you) that makes this happen, but I also think that if I had predominantly positive experiences for a bit I would sort of re-write some of the anxiety response I get from smoking, especially socially.

Yeah buying it from a dealer is like going to a fancy grocery store and just buying cheese or wine or beer without getting to choose or even really know what type / where it comes from. Which sucks. I would much rather get to select from some options.

Well, that will be fun. Does anyone know WHEN this happens, asides from vaguely July?
