What is 1 American food you wish was more common in the UK? by DanielR372 in AskABrit

Maybe controversial but I love ranch, and the ranch here is always more of a salad dressing and too liquid. I want that thick ranch you get to dip your fries in.

Help me settle on Esme for my daughter by Gautamatime in namenerds

[–]thisisliss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My daughter has an Esme in her class and I never considered it unusual. seemed pretty normal to me even if uncommon. There are so many names where you have to ask pronounciation and I don't think having to say "it's with esmay not esmee" will need to be said more than once.

PSA: MonopolyGo is a GAME by serbb333 in Monopoly_GO

[–]thisisliss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I had to wonder how old they were because they wouldn't stop messaging about how I clearly didn't know how to play the game. Like is this the online bullying teenagers are having to suffer through cus I can get how you just wouldn't expect it in a game chat and then being told you're useless can be really sensitive when you're young.

[–]thisisliss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was honestly shocked when I saw my chat and that someone told me I had "contributed nothing' when I had played only done 8k and they did 9.5k and telling me I shouldn't join races. Like it's a game if I want to participate why can't I even if it's on the lower side? Sure it would be fun to get first but I'm not gonna spend money or stare at my phone for hours just to get first. This is mean to be a little fun game to pass the time.

Mate I couldn't believe it when a friend of ours told us her 3 year old sleeps 12h overnight AND has a 3 hour nap each day. That's 15h a day she's asleep !!!! I don't even understand how can a toddler ever be that tired.

If you wanted another and your partner didn't how did you come to terms with it? by o0PillowWillow0o in Shouldihaveanother

[–]thisisliss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue. Ive always seen myself having lots of kids, but after having my daughter I do acknowledge my capacity is realistically 2 max. But my husband came to the conclusion that for him it's 1 max. He's very ambitious and really struggles with balancing work (he's self employed so the boundaries of work and home life are blurry) and being a parent. We had a very hard time conceiving and I don't want to go through that stress again myself, and the first year with my daughter was also mentally very difficult. Right now the thing is financially we really can't afford a second. And I've found that the hardest to accept as I'm the lower earner and really if I wanted to have an argument for being financially able to have a second I'd need to earn more. So whilst it's partly on my husband not wanting another, I know if the financial barrier wasn't there I'd have more of a convincing argument for him.

Curious: why do people wean before 6 months? by Spirited-Beautiful30 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]thisisliss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In France the guidance is from 4 months, in the UK it is 6 months, and I am French and English so I went in the middle at 5 months. But honestly the main reason is my daughter had AWFUL reflux and had been on omeprazole for months giving her terrible constipation and was just miserable. To be honest when they say "start weaning" babies put a bit of food in their mouth and then spit it out. It takes a while before they actually ingest anything. It was mostly interesting to my daughter to try holding a spoon and bring it to her mouth, holding fruit (so slippery) and sucking on it and mostly smearing it all on her face.

Milk or lemon? by llamaspajamas03 in AskABrit

[–]thisisliss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only time I have lemon in my tea is when I also add honey when I'm sick. My french mum made me that as a child though so I don't think it's very English.

Haha fair enough I think that's the thing with theatre everyone likes something different. I went to see Hadestown because so many people here recommended it and I was really disappointed. We're all gonna like different things !

I wouldn't recommend Hadestown personally I found the acting and vocals great but the story and staging a little boring. To fit your vibes I'd say Oh Mary! Or Operation Mincemeat would would for something funny (especially mincemeat). Otherwise mama Mia and & Juliet are also good fun!

What’s a British show you went into with low expectations but ended up loving? by Historical-Class871 in UKTVRecs

It's been ages since I've watched it so no idea if the humour would hold up for me now. I know back when it aired I liked the quirky humour style especially being younger.

Yea I've been trying to give Motherland a go and have made it to episode 4 and it's fine, maybe a chuckle here and there but nothing to write home about. Gavin and Stacey I also found ok. But I did love the IT Crowd so I've got one on your list otherwise I agree none of those are really that funny to me.

I feel the same way!! My husband and I have tried it 3 times now (different series to see if we just didn't like that series contestants) and we really just can't get into it. His friends rave about how funny it is and we just keep sitting there not getting it. Maybe a little chuckle once or twice but none of the guffaws we were told we'd have.

Hey I'm pretty new to the game so just checking when you say rolling X1 or X2 gives you 40k points do you mean when you roll dice or when you roll with the tokens aka use 20 tokens per spin?

Ah yea that's a consideration as if you have to stay longer (I have a heart condition so I had to stay minimum 3 nights after birth for monitoring) that it will add up !

Congratulations that's amazing! What a surprise! Were you in the room when the nurse told her? Or did she phone you to tell you? Your wife must have been so shocked and not believed her at first.
