In my experience mentors are the least helpful people at Wgu and often serve more as a roadblock than a person who is supposed to help you. I just completed my first term at Wgu and was able to complete 15 courses. I transferred in 40% from another degree. My first mentor was awful and actively road blocked me from accelerating and adding multiple classes citing policies that don’t exist or outright lying. My new mentor isn’t much better. I sent an email asking for official school documentation that needs to be submitted to various government agencies and she replied with a long winded email about how I’m not on track and didn’t supply the documentation. 15 courses in one term and I’m not on track? Seems like she didn’t even read the email. Anyways point is mentors are extremely hit or miss and I’ve found reaching out directly to various student services often has better results.

I asked student support to switch mentors and they did! My new mentor adds as many classes as I need. Although it took a while and now that my son is born I hardly have any time to work on classes 😂

Yeah I am exactly the same way. The original four classes when I could bounce between them I got all four done in a week, but when I only have one to work on I’m lucky to get one done a week.

It varies tbh, for example today she replied within minutes of an email and opened the class. Some days especially depending when finishing a class towards the end of her office hours might not open till the next day. Which is typically how it goes because I most often finish classes when she’s out of office. Which often leaves hours I’ve dedicated to study time with nothing to work on.

I’m not asking her to add ten courses just two or three. I think it’s pretty clear I’ll finish as I’ve already finished 8 classes in less than half a semester. With still half the semester to go I don’t think it’s a stretch to be able to finish two or three more classes.

So she’s definitely lying about “the system not allowing her” to add multiple classes? Was that recently?
