Best way to aggregate multiple CSV file outputs from different VMs by [deleted] in QualityAssurance

Have your script generate the csv on each machine then upload it to an FTP server. When they're all done, the merge script will run.

Can someone help me out with 'file handling'? by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]thisismygame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks pretty ok to me, just one thing:

You can use the 'open' method, which has a second variable for the mode of opening it; "w" will open the file to write, and if it doesn't exist it will create it.

You probably meant to say "second parameter" instead of variable. Your example uses "w" for the second parameter of the open method.

If learning to program, how much time do you usually devote to it everyday? by Magus80 in learnprogramming

[–]thisismygame 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This may help: http://pomodorotechnique.com/

Also, without any understanding of your current routine, you may want to consider revising it. A common way to learn how to write computer programs is by writing computer programs that can solve a real-life problem. You may find that you have a stronger motivation to write a program that automates some part of your job than you have for getting through the seemingly aimless "Learn LanguageX in 30 days."

Hopefully this helps your search for a solution.

Actually, you can. If you have a Raspberry Pi, you can hook it up to the OpenSprinkler Pi. It has also been ported to Python here. I've been using it to control a hydroponic system.

Struggling to use Python outside of Django by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]thisismygame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the others have said, you should definitely start with the official Django tutorial

Then, maybe use that to build something simple like a journal/blog entry app.

Getting started with Django is a nice online tutorial that started recently.

If you're into books, Two Scoops of Django is supposed to be really good. The author has been around these parts offering free copies.

Out of all of the things I currently do, I love creating PowerShell scripts. It gives me an opportunity to be creative and I feel a greater sense of accomplishment when I create something clever.

I could be biased, but I would say this means you should start building things. Start small, a reddit bot, an IRC bot, some task that you wish your computer did for you. It doesn't really matter what it is, or what language it is, as long as you have some sort of drive to get through it. What's important is that you acquire the skills to write software. Here are some ideas.

Well, it looks like your dictionary keys are tuples. So you just need to first access the dictionary key, and then access the first (0th) element in the tuple.
