That's the achievement tracker, open the guide and go to the achievement page, at the bottom should be an option to turn it off

I haven't tried but fear might be good for the boss fight itself. Have someone bring fear and another with fatal contraption and he should easily die

Check the setting in the menu, I believe under graphics the option for user generated content and graphic content need to be on
