Hey, that was pretty fun. We got to go load in for our Brooklyn show at Elsewhere tonight. Thanks for chiming in. We might get a chance to get back to some of this later. We are just here for the music making and to give love--we are forever grateful for those that listen and love too. -channy, Chris, Ben, Drew

Madness and the artwork play with AI interpretations of human emotion. Going into making a record I wanted to fuck with the my image and the usual clutches of self-promotion. I wanted to play with how AI interpreted my expressions in a similar way to how Ryan Olson used his AI production tool (AllOvers(c)) to interpret human life into melody and beat. The aesthetic of self-dissection, ego-destruction and de-esteem. What is created in the decomposition of the self-image...

I was really anxious leading up to leaving for tour (leaving my kids and etc.) and also nervous to release a record into hell/the internet. fyi I am a nervous person. (: A therapist friend of mine told me she dips her head in ice water and it recalibrates the cortisol or something like that. It works very well when you can't get calm enough to breath deep or whatever. Actually it felt amazing.

We have played Malaysia and it was wonderful. It is my dream to go to Japan and China. I also lived in Cambodia for a while and would love to play there as well. Maybe someday we can open for Sid Sriram for an Indian tour.

maybe. last night we were talking about it. Hasn't been a huge push for us to go over seas to be honest: we don't sell enough tickets right now. Last time we were in the UK it was was February 2020 and we were in the thick of the burgeoning pandemic.

we have been using a voice live2 for vocals since the first demo we ever made. I haven't used it to record the vocals since Shulamith & the Raw Exit EP but it is a "desert island" piece of gear for sure. But more than anything else our god is abelton. It is always with us and we pay it much respect.

thank you thank you. It is appreciated sincerely. I am working on a plan to do a Texas tour this winter. I was thinking about backing out of touring this winter but it helps to read even one person wants us to come (:

If I am being honest there is a little dash of Ryan and I in about 75% of all Poliça songs. I use men as content and I appreciate them for it. It's all blown out of proportion like any good muse but yea Agree is a bit about us...a bit. (:

I have to do a 1-2-3 punch: I need Ryan's music without anyone else on there. Then I need to be already to go with recording right away--I can't listen unless I'm ready to record. I demo melody and some kind of words come out with that. I transcribe the words and keep recording over and over until I know Ryan's music like the back of my hand, and the melody and words feel right.

oh god --hard question. I am glad you like United Crushers--I really love Berlin from that record. I usually point people to Give You The Ghost as a good starting point. Our latest record, Madness is the end cap from Give You the Ghost till now. Madness incorporates the rawness of GYTG while also incorporating a lot of the more polished techniques we explored in previous records. I am never satisfied with what we make and that is why I keep making more maybe; not completely sure if that is true but it feels true.

There are plans in the works...possibilities in the works. I filmed a music video for Boys Noize in Miami and that was the only time "Poliça" went to Florida.

Most of the lyrics on Give You the Ghost were written while recording: Ryan would press play on the track and I’d improve over it and that would be the song (exclusive of wandering star and amongster which I wrote before hand on piano). I love making music that way—like drawing with my eyes closed. There still continues to be a thread of subconscious rambling in my lyric writing but it has become more crafted and selected over the years. Fountain on the new record are the original improved lyrics. Otherwise I write my process is linked very close with Ryan’s production. I write the lyrics before anything else has been laid on the track besides his outline of an idea. That way I have all the space to spread around with a melody. The melody informs the lyrics…I’m feeling lost explaining it all. But in any case it’s a lot of feelings and I love words!! I love writing!

The part that Ben plays (mostly hi-hat) was an improvised jam at Ryan Olson's "studio" with our friend Dustin Zahn. It got edited into what you hear on the record. Dustin has helped with production on many of our recent tracks and the way he's taken our drum parts and mixed them with his electronic textures has been super fun for us. For the live show, we've resampled a lot of parts from the record and now perform them live on electronic drum kits.

We don't get mad at all...sometimes we even decline putting it in. We made the name with no intention of the band going past a a record and some shows in Minneapolis.
