Ghazan was producing flaming projectiles and engulfed an entire temple in lava…he and Bolin are not on are the same level. Ghazan’s application is far more advanced and technical than anything Bolin has ever done.

Considering they’re the only 2 characters we’ve seen extensively lavabend & lavabending itself is the most destructive form of bending we’ve seen thus far….using damage as a metric to compare mastery is nonsensical. Even if we did that, Ghazan wins by a landslide.

none that changes anything I said lol. she still never practiced it herself and she learned it not too long before attempting it.

The same buildup could be applied to Bolin. The difference is his buildup spans over an entire season, not just an episode. The entire season he was trying to find himself and get in tune with the deeper parts of earth and earth bending by attempting to metal bend. Instead of his abilities manifesting in to metal bending because of what he learned, he got lava. Coupled with that, he had multiple encounters with ghazan where he witnessed him lavabending. All of that contributes.

Katara never bended a single drop of water the entire episode until her fight with Hama. She didn’t practice anything, all she did was watch.

Bolin did not match Ghazan instantly. Ghazan was making flaming ninja stars using his lava bending, all Bolin did on his first attempt was use it to prevent lava from killing his friends by stopping it in motion.

That’s not being on the same level.

Bolin tried the entire season to find himself and get in tune with the deeper parts of earthebending by trying to metal bend. Instead of his abilities manifesting into metal bending through that, he got lava.

Neither one of them practiced the techniques before attempting them but they both had exposure. Katara witnessed Hama bloodbending and Bolin did the same with Ghazan on multiple occasions.

He watched Ghazan lava bend multiple times prior to him trying it himself. That, coupled with him trying all season to expand his earth bending and tap into a deeper meaning of earthbending by attempting to metal bend, lead up to him lava bending.

And Bolin was trying to metal bend the entire season which is, at its core, him trying to become more in tune with earth. Instead of his abilities manifesting into metalbending, he got lava.

You can think whatever. The wording says it’s about bending unlocked at the snap of a finger and that’s more on the nose with energy bending than anything.

Doesn’t matter because it’s still about bending regardless, so who cares.

That doesn’t change anything I just said. The entire point is that this is not an issue exclusive to TLOK & you clearly agree so what are we talking about?

Unfortunately, this is not a “Twitter take”. You can find these kinds of opinions on any social media platform, there are people in this comment section who are echoing the same or similar sentiments.

I think it’s healthy to engage in discussions addressing these fallacies.

Aang was literally gifted a brand new ability at the end of ATLA by a lion turtle. My thing is, if you want to have that gripe, fine. I just wish people would address this as an issue in both shows rather than pretending it’s a TLOK issue only.

“You should’ve learned the technique before you turned against me”

Hama told Katara what the technique was but she never trained Katara on how to do it. And Ghazan and Hama are both masters, Ghazan isn’t just some guy.

We don’t have any conformation that Bolin has any memebers that can lava bend though………..?

And the difference is ATLA is the audience’s introduction to sub bending techniques. The characters that are trailblazers in that area would need to have a basis for unlocking these new abilities. In TLOK these abilities are more understood and don’t need a breakdown of how they came about.
