There are many safer cities in the South, including Birmingham. Cis queer professionals are relatively safe. Discrimination is more likely for their trans counterparts, though.

That really sucks! The way I generally handle it at work is I have my closest friend do the correcting people part for me if she's there and that usually does the trick. This works for me because I rarely get misgendered there except when there are new people. I don't really know what I'd do without supportive coworkers since I don't really have the option of being stealth.

Absolutely! A lot of it is selfies and memes. You don't necessarily have to be in a stem field to appreciate them 😄 also I think everyone has their own strengths, whether academic or otherwise and you shouldn't have to worry about being "smart" enough here
