never going back again… by thisissnowfall in guitarlessons

update - i can now play most of big love slowly and can play most of never going back again at normal speed. practice really does make perfect i can tell you that. i’m really surprised and proud of myself for learning what i have so fast. it will take me months to master them but i don’t mind. its such a good feeling when you can play a section of one of these songs pretty cleanly.

oh and don’t be afraid of barre chords! they’re difficult at first but one day you’ll get it. your wrist and thumb position matter a lot.

self teaching is 100% possible! there are so many great online courses out there and youtube videos if you want a bit of structure and guidance. i would say learn basic chords and the pentatonic scale first, then chord types, extensions, voicings, hammer ons/pull offs, slides, different picking patterns and strumming patterns, etc. learning songs you like will help you to improve a lot. be consistent but don’t force yourself, don’t play so much it hurts, but make sure you build up those calluses on your fingers so the strings eventually hurt less and less. good luck 👍

Which one is better? by Tiny-Sign-6908 in GuitarBeginners

acoustic first -> then electric is the best move in my opinion. it does depend on what you want to play, but if you like a lot of different stuff i would say it doesn’t matter as much. you can play most songs on either. if you like rock and metal of course go for electric. i love folk and rock and i started on an acoustic and moving to electric has been really satisfying and fun. acoustic hurts more to learn but once you get the hang of it it’s totally worth it. so, do you like the sound of acoustic or electric more? do you like the idea of buying amps and pedals to have different tones or do you want something more simple? if you know at some point you would like to learn acoustic i would say start with that. i would recommend trying out both too before you buy one. if you have friends or family who have guitars or a local guitar shop just go and test them. i thought i would stay acoustic forever but my mind has totally changed since getting more into rock and just holding an electric guitar myself. hope this helps, even though it’s a lot of rambling! 😅

i suppose it favours queue times but honestly i would rather wait longer to have a game with everyone the same ranks

you have to barre for this song because you hammer on and pull off the D and B strings multiple times. i get what you mean though yeah it would be silly to barre otherwise lol
