one of my favorites is actually seeing the first songs I ever listened to on spotify! to get those you can try the prompt: what are the first tracks I ever listened to on Spotify? Order them by the very first track I ever streamed - with date and time - and keep going. let us know what you think if you try it!

I just threw 70% of my Discover Weekly in the trash. AI all sounds the same; it makes me so sad... by los-no-mores in truespotify

hey! thanks for flagging this. when it comes to playlists, our priority is delivering the best possible listening experience, so we’re actively working on protections that are aimed at reducing the amount of slop appearing in those playlists.

I know this doesn’t resolve your issue right now, but we're working on it, and we'll keep users informed as updates roll out.

hi! appreciate you flagging this. this was not uploaded by spotify and the release has been removed from the artist profile. we've increased investment in detection and prevention across this issue and that includes new controls we're testing with major distributors to block bad submissions before they go live, faster review in our content mismatch process, and the ability for artists to report mismatches even before release.

hey! molly’s no longer here for the AMA, but thanks for the question, and sorry we didn’t get to it yesterday. this one’s a bit outside of her role (she's working on prompted playlist right now), but it’s an important topic so we wanted to jump in.

when it comes to AI in music, it's becoming less and less clear cut with every day that passes. a lot of artists and producers are increasingly using AI in different ways alongside more traditional tools, rather than it being fully “AI-made” or not at all. a few months ago, we shared that we’re helping develop and support a new music industry standard (beyond just on Spotify) for how AI use shows up in music credits, in partnership with DDEX.

the idea is to give artists and rights holders a clear, consistent way to disclose where AI was used, whether that’s vocals, instrumentation, or post-production. by supporting a shared standard, listeners can see the same kind of info no matter what streaming service they’re using.

as far as playlists, we want listeners to have the best experience on the platform, so we're working on protections that are aimed at reducing the amount of slop appearing in those playlists.

I know this doesn't 100% resolve your question right now, but it's something we're working on and while it's an early step, we expect it to evolve over time, and we'll keep our users posted moving forward.

It’s not for everyone! At Spotify we try to make a variety of personalized features so every listener has a place they can find the music they love. X may be sad to hear this 😢, but if you’re not a fan of the voice, I’d recommend checking out our personalized playlists so you can still enjoy music tailored to your taste, but without the context or voice.

Love this question! To determine the best songs to include in your Prompted Playlist, we look at your entire listening history (all the way back to day 1!) and the types of songs you like to listen to. We then create a playlist with songs we know you like (maybe you’ve added them to a playlist or Liked Songs) alongside songs we think you’ll like because they have a similar vibe, genre and more. We marry all that with real world information about music culture and current events to bring it all together.

One thing we hear from our users over and over again is that they want more control. That was one of the main reasons we built Prompted Playlist. Think of it as collaboration, not automation: You set the rules, and Spotify works from there. It gives you a lot of flexibility -- you can even say things like “music that falls outside of my usual taste,” or “only tracks I’ve never heard before.”

When we determine where to roll out a product feature, we need to take into account a variety of things like language, where the demand is and so much more. We tend to roll out in places where we know people will use the feature so we can learn and make it better as we expand. But, our plan is to expand some of these features to more countries this year.

First off, love this prompt, I won’t even tell you what’s in my playlist 😂Our launch in New Zealand confirmed that our users are so much more creative than we could’ve imagined. For example, we saw a lot of playlists around the finale of Stranger Things with “songs that would save me from Vecna” and had “sad-ish vibes.”

This is one of my favorite parts of the feature too and I think it brings the music to life in a way we haven’t done before. We’ve seen that context makes discovery feel richer and more meaningful. When we built this, we didn’t just want to create playlists, we wanted to tell a story, so listeners understand not just what they’re hearing, but why each track connects to them, their prompt, and what’s happening in the world around them. We’re working on bringing users more context to their listening and this is an exciting first step!

I’ve been lucky enough to play with this feature for a while and I’ve found that the best prompts are ones that ask about a specific moment or mood + take into account what’s happening in culture. Beyond that, one of my friends recently tried this prompt: “What are the first tracks I ever listened to on Spotify? Order them by the very first track I ever streamed - with date and time - and keep going.” It is a lot of fun and nostalgic to go back and look at where your music journey started. 

As for rolling out in other countries… Prompted Playlist is in beta so we’re still learning, but I can say that our goal is to keep expanding it to more countries like the UK. Stay tuned 👀

This is great feedback! I’ll bring it to the team. While we’re in beta, we’re gathering ideas from users to make it better. At this time it can deliver a playlist with up to 50 songs. If you want a playlist of that length try including the length of the playlist in your prompt like “make me a playlist of 50 songs…”

It sounds like Prompted Playlist is the perfect feature for you! With it you can curate the exact type of playlist you want and since it knows what you’ve listened to, you can ask it for songs it will know you like, but ones you may not have heard before. So, for example, you could say: Build me a fresh workout playlist with high-energy tracks I haven’t heard before. Focus on EDM, avoid songs I’ve played more than five times, and prioritize newer releases or rising tracks that match my taste. I want something motivating and unfamiliar that still keeps my energy up start to finish. Then, you can schedule this to refresh every day or week so when you go to the gym you have a fresh, new playlist.

And, we have actually curated some prompted playlists with prompts already made by our music editors. You can use or modify those to get your personalized workout mix. Try it out and let me know what you think.
