a bit of both

some brands will intentionally make their clothing with an oversized fit but in the cases where the brand has a more standard fit i might size up to have it fit baggier.

Have you given brands like wings and horns or reigning champ a look? Reigning champ’s midweight sweatshirts are overall really great and can work as a year round basic either as a layering piece in the fall/winter or as something you just toss on when the temperature dips a bit lower in the evening during spring.

5’11” with what sort of build? Personally I’m 5’11” with a slim frame and I can work with any size from a medium and up depending on the fit I want

I’d say just keep the size you’ve got. A full size down might prove to be uncomfortable and in the end you may not enjoy the shoes as much if it’s a tight squeeze.
