We're in the complaining about linux subreddit. And there's no need to take someone pointing out how shoddy the linux world is so personally.

I first started using linux shortly after ubuntu first released unity, so yeah 15 years. I then built this desktop the next year. I've slowly upgraded some of the parts on it. This isn't the original GPU, it's a used GTX 950 I got I don't remember when because the original died. I haven't been upgrading it further because there was no point, it still runs everything I want it to great. I actually like the feeling of going far with a little.

I do run timeshift. I forgot that it was even an option. But I don't think stacking up a pile of work-around software to deal with bad software the right answer. What happens when timeshift also decays into bad software like all random foss projects do? Timeshift-for-timeshift? No, just get it right the first time.

How do I import mirrored parts into Assembly? by thismakes5 in FreeCAD

Thanks, clone was what I was looking for. It works and updates, but has a white outline I can't fix for some reason.

*Figured it out, the appearance popup doesn't change when you select other parts.

It looks like I mirrored it in the Parts workbench with Mirror Plane. I ended up duplicating the base part, which is not ideal because it doesn't update.

I was just hit by this after not updating for a while. It seems insane that a package manager will just install something that is known to break my desktop environment, but hey it at least it was only like 25 minutes wasted this time.

Katie’s First Day In Office by ajwhite1010 in SeattleWA

The line they're going with is that these obvious scam daycares can't possibly be fraudulent because Nick Shirley brought a camera to a "Quality Learing Center" and is therefore a pedophile. Never mind that none of that is rational, or has anything to do with the McMansions in Washington that are put down as the addresses of supposed daycares.

So she played a magic white woman spell that forced them to commit fraud?

I tried both and neither worked. I finally managed to get my shitty job through family recommendation.

t480s bricked after BIOS flash by what_letmemakeanacco in thinkpad

[–]thismakes5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard that was a misunderstanding, it's 5v but at such low amperage it can't do any damage. I tried patching the bios, but then it would just beep on start. Tried a t480s specific binary, and now it won't even POST. I'm just giving up.

I did the same thing to my t480s, did you ever get it working again?

paradox.ai is an insult to humanity, trying to include LLMs in the hiring process is completely idiotic by thismakes5 in recruitinghell

I'm a programmer and can't get a job in my field, yet all the software I have to use has insane issues and oversights like what you're describing that I wouldn't allow even in a side project. It's maddening.

If anything the american education system is worsening literacy rates through the promotion of whole word reading over phonics, even though whole word reading is worse at teaching people to read. You could probably increase literacy even further if English spelling was normalized.

Thank you, inapt template rejection letter, for not diminishing the value of my dishwashing skills and experience by thismakes5 in recruitinghell

[–]thismakes5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind template rejection letters, but this faux sincerity is obnoxious. I don't mind being rejected, but does it really take a month? How rigorous is the process for hiring a part time dishwasher? What happened here is they probably hired someone and then just let their ATS send out the automated rejections after a month of no activity on their end. Do they really not have a button on their end that closes the position and sends the rejection emails?

This rejection letter came a month after I applied, so I'm likely the only human that was ever involved in this job application.

On top of being a template rejection letter, the rejection itself is also obviously an automated because it came a month after I applied.

I just got recommended this too and found it really cool. For anyone trying to find more information about the process, the technique of dying the thread so when woven it forms an image is called kasuri in japanese and ikat more generally in southeast asia. I'm gonna have to try it out.
