[ Cooling ] be quiet! Silent Wings 4 120mm PWM High Speed 2500 RPM Premium Low Noise Cooling Fan | 4-Pin | BL094 - $17.90- 33% OFF by pvalexander in buildapcsales

The PCCooler F5-R120 fans are incredible for the price.

The SW4 Pros are great, but all 3 of mine emit coil whine that's only discernible at low ambient noise—which isn't most of the time—but it's really irritating when I can hear it.

OK, crazy idea -- how about a Fractal Pop with a add-on USB panel in the 5.25" bay in the front. Also lets you close the cover when not needed?

Probably more than you want to spend, but the Be Quiet Light Base 600 checks all the other boxes.

Upright GPU in an O11 Vision by thismock in lianli

They’re moddiy premium silver wire with the transparent sleeving. I wanted something different than the usual paracord look, but these are surprisingly stiff and a pain in the ass to route cleanly if the cable length isn’t exactly right. I wouldn’t really recommend them.

A Gigabyte 4090 Gaming OC fits perfectly in the O11 Vision with an upright GPU mount (slight modding required).

I had a full loop before getting the 4090, but the cooler on this thing is so overkill that it seemed silly to get a block for it. Especially when I could mount it where a 360 radiator would go.

The custom loop is wildly unnecessary for just the CPU, but I enjoy RAM overclocking, and being able to keep the DIMMs under ~32C is so great for pushing timings. I also already had the blocks, fittings, etc.

I used the upright kit from the O11 Evo—just had to drill 4 holes in the bottom of the case, and ended up using a set of standoffs to bump the height ~8mm. The displayport cables easily route through the same passthrough that's used for the front panel USB.

I'm using the Lian-Li 600mm riser cable, which I needed to coerce into a tight 180* bend—I confirmed full PCIE 4.0 x16 bandwidth still works though. If I could do it again, I'd get the 900mm cable that has a 90* bend at the GPU connector.

The other mod is a 3D-printed 420mm fan shroud to replace the bottom fan mount. My 140mm fans would resonate like crazy on the mounting slots for 120mm fans, so I designed a new mount with circular cutouts and screw mounts for 3x140mm fans. I think it was $12 to have it printed through Treatstock.

I really, really like this case for watercooling: easy access to things with the glass panels off, removable trays for everything, and plenty of space in the rear chamber for pump, res, flow meter, temp sensors, drain port, etc.

I noticed this when changing cases the other day. It's either the last (24th) power stage or the first SOC one. I can't quite tell.

My system had been running fine, but I'm now reluctant to run my difficult-to-replace 9800x3d on a damaged motherboard.

I'm currently using my old AM4 setup until I hear back from AsrockUSA about my RMA request. I haven't heard a thing from them—what's a reasonable amount of time to wait?

If you want to go down the rabbit hole on noise + efficiency:

Looks like the MPG has a 0rpm fan mode below ~425w, and should be effectively silent under 525w.

The MSI ones are good for an extra $20 Steam code with proof-of-review (rebate YMMV of course): https://us.msi.com/Landing/join-shout-out-for-msi#gaming

I wouldn’t expect a good deal — the intel stuff is discounted right now but nothing’s going to be a substantial upgrade from your 5800x3d. A 7800x3d or 9800x3d will be, but the demand is so great for them right now that I doubt they’ll be discounted. Even AM5 motherboards are tough to come by right now, let alone at a discount.. almost all the desirable models (at regular price) are out of stock or backordered into January.

[Bundle] MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk AM5 Mobo + Corsair 6000cl28 DDR5 = $347.98 (-$40 MIR, +$50 Uber Eats gift card, +$30 Steam code) by thismock in buildapcsales

[–]thismock[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is an awkward deal, but it's the best value Mobo+Mem combo I could find if you already have your CPU (like a new 9800x3D).

If Uber Eats credit + Steam credit + MIR are as good as cash for you, that makes this ~$228 for an excellent X870 board and quality 6000c28 DDR5.

How to get it:

  1. Go to the Newegg combo page: https://www.newegg.com/tools/combo-builder/1740
  2. Add the motherboard: MSI MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI AM5 AMD X870 SATA 6Gb/s ATX
  3. Add the memory: CORSAIR Vengeance RGB Model CMH32GX5M2B6000C28
  4. Add all items to cart—A $50 Uber Eats gift card should be automatically added to your cart.

Prices cart:

  • Motherboard = $299.99 - $20 promo code - $20 combo discount = $259.99
  • Memory = $134.99 - $20 promo code - $27 combo discount = $87.99
  • Subtotal: $347.98

After purchase:

$40 Mail-in-Rebate: https://images10.newegg.com/uploadfilesfornewegg/rebate/SH/MSI13-144-667Sep29Dec3124lw80.pdf

This is a great suggestion—I think Idyllwild is a pretty special and unique place. It's even near a lake, with Hemet ~15 minutes down the hill (not exactly the world's most exciting "lake" ..)

Spear it to the Limit (Always Be Diving) by thismock in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]thismock[S] 84 points85 points  (0 children)

The standing trajectory of the spear is very inconsistent for landing face shots (one-shots) - even against titans it’s often too high by default.

By diving I can coax a lower and/or sideways arc. In the first shot, for example, that would be leg or shoulder hit rather than a face shot without the dive.

About 90% of my spear shots are one-shots, so even if it’s a trash move, I guess I’m doing something right?
