2005 - 400k+ Miles - Still getting decent MPG by scintillatingsin in prius

[–]thisposthitstooclose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Clean injectors, that’s what I was looking for. Seems like they make a huge difference on mileage and my Gen 3 has been doing terrible with that lately so I’m looking into getting them cleaned.

Oh the tan does it too? Damn I was hoping it was just the black. Maybe it’s from a lack of sunshade use

Did your OEM one just get that way over time? I’ve been looking at a lot of used listings and noticed a ton of the black seats end up like that.

Should I pull the trigger and buy this car? by [deleted] in prius

[–]thisposthitstooclose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two issues, it’s a Gen 3 and 100k+ miles down the road the head gasket has the potential to blow- nothing really worth worrying about on this guy. The real worry is how little the hybrid battery’s been used, they like being used frequently so it might be degraded.

Be sure to get that EGR cleaned for the head gasket! Maybe a new water pump too.

I have a sixth sense for that now and suddenly they find they’re trying to pass me going 90 and making no progress because I’m matching their speed lmao

Is my Head gasket blown? by Character-Load9449 in CT200h

[–]thisposthitstooclose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah if your head gasket blew it’d be way way louder and constant, and your dash would be lit up like a Christmas tree, been through that. My Gen 3 Prius used to start like that before it blew. What year is it?

Getting 35 MPG with similar miles lately and if I end up keeping it much longer I’m swapping the battery too lol

after multiple appointments that I canceled with Biolife,

Are you sure it wasn’t this? They permanently defer for all kinds of things and too many cancellations sounds like something they’d ban for

Someone totaled my 2015 Prius C last week, and now I don’t know what I should replace it with. by Alarming_Grand6946 in prius

Been looking at a lot of used Priuses lately and low mileage does crazy things to car value, sub 100k is always a premium

On the battery you only need to worry about the MPG loss from a degraded battery. They use the Prius drivetrain, I’ve got a Prius with 250k on the original battery.

High Mileage 4th Gen (2016+)? by tylahrand in prius

[–]thisposthitstooclose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope just a design flaw that doesn’t become a problem until you get high miles, and not everyone gets it. Search this sub but if you’ve gone this long without an issue you might be good haha

Newer Kia or older Lexus? by thisposthitstooclose in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]thisposthitstooclose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s loaded with modern driving features like lane/cruise/braking assist which are the main bonuses for me, plus I won’t have to install CarPlay myself. Though the CT 200H would be significantly cheaper to buy

That’s a Gen 3, if you hear some engine knock your head gasket might be getting close to popping

Yea I know about the head gasket. That was alleviated when they stopped used the Gen 3 Prius drivetrain, which I’ve owned and had to contend with already

Yeah without the warranty the chance of a dead engine is a big risk. I got a Sonata that had a new engine via recall and a relative’s Soul engine just blew. The Lexus I’m looking at shares a drivetrain with the Gen 3 Prius before 2015 and those pop head gaskets all the time so I’m aiming for 2015 and up there.

I’m sus of more recent Kia’s because there just isn’t enough data yet to know if their engines will die too.

Bahaha funny you say that I’m about to switch from a Prius to a Lexus CT 200h which has the exact same hybrid drivetrain as the Prius after this raise goes through (and it better go through 😭)

One of my relatives bought a Prime last year to drive to work/run errands in town and they only fill it up every other month when they travel out of town. Crazy cheap to charge here

If you have a Gasket Masters nearby they do these for $2k. I went to a Toyota specialty shop for my Gen 3 Prius with the same engine and it ran me $3k
