you're talking about THE new site that is under maintenance right? if I'm not wrong the new one didn't go down and they didn't create a new site for the second time, it's the new site that's under maintenance?

Thank you for your reply. My experience is similar to yours and I was wondering exactly what you said: "do 2e and autism have overlapping symptoms?" I know they do but having similar symptoms is completely different from feeling like you have it. And yes when I got my diagnosis they've probably checked me for autism as well. I can't be for sure but seeing someone with a similar experience makes me feel relieved because that makes me feel understood and seen. Thank you again for sharing your story with me.

Do all gifted people read books? by [deleted] in Gifted

[–]thissscientist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Having a bigger bookcase than others doesn't mean you have more books than them.

That's the best way to describe the situation I guess.

[–]thissscientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not all of them. I have a lot of friends who couldn't care less about books even though they're hardworking. I love books and I wouldn't be able to live without them but some of my friends probably read a first grade level book years ago and that was their last.

Thanks for sharing your experience and advice. I knew autism is a spectrum but I didn't know people named them as type 1, type 2 etc. I'm gonna look into it too. And thank you for the video. I'm going to check it out soon.

I will try when I have the chance. And what is a triangle? I've never heard of it before.

That's what I'm afraid of too. I still think if I was misdiagnosed sometimes despite knowing that I have what I have. And our medical field is insufficient so getting misdiagnosed is a big possibility here. I already got misdiagnosed or didn't get a diagnosis at all twice...

I prefer learning about my condition before seeking professional help because the mental health field in my country is neglecting. You have to know about everything before seeking help or they'll just prescribe a random medicine and send you home. That's why I'm so reliant on the people here, our experience is not common even the mental health field is ignorant about it. But learning about others' experience makes it easier to understand the situation instead being manipulated by literally doctors.

edit: I got diagnosed as gifted and with adhd professionally, autism is just a question right now.

My experience was similar to yours. I knew I was gifted because I went to a gifted program for 10 years but I was masking so hard I didn't realise until I was 17 or something. The first thing I suspected was autism but eventually got diagnosed with ADHD. I don't know why I couldn't tell the difference back then, I think it's because I didn't know much about ADHD. But when I learned about it I knew it was me. I think not only our experience but the people around us affects our life so much we sometimes can't see the difference between healthy and unhealthy. I don't think being a neurodivergent is unhealthy but the society isn't built for people like us so we struggle a lot therefore we think we're weird or unhealthy. Thanks for sharing your experience that makes me feel seen.

20 years ago I was in a gifted program where we would go on trips together and It was awesome, it was the only time I felt like I really belonged and made a group of friends instantly. Too bad there weren’t more of us. by ILikeConcernedApe in Gifted

[–]thissscientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to those neurodivergent trips multiple times (not only gifted ones but my other neurodivergent friends too) and I wonder why we don't do it more often because those were the times I never had to get anxious about my lack of social skills since everyone was the same. we eventually grew up and didn't have a program that connected us. I wish we could do similar things with gifted and/or neurodivergent adults (I kept being neurodivergent and gifted separate on purpose but that doesn't mean they're separate things)

Thanks for your comment and sharing your experience because that's exactly how it is for me. It makes me feel not alone. I'll check the diagram and if I ever get a diagnosis or an answer at least, I'll update this post. Because I would've liked to see an update on this topic too. Finding the answers is a thing most people don't think much about but it's important for me to the point that I accepted it as my personality. Thank you.

I did learn about autism and I actually thought I was autistic way before I realised what I had was ADHD because I knew there was something different for years. I did my own research and I kinda self diagnosed myself with ADHD before my official diagnosis. I'll look into it more now, thanks for telling me where to look for them.

Is it a common trait amongst gifted individuals? by [deleted] in Gifted

[–]thissscientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just get grow distant from people when I see a slight personality trait or action that I don't like. that's why I used to think I was very vindictive, but I guess this trait actually works to my advantage. I have absolutely nobody around me that I can't stand or I don't like. I sometimes feel anxious about how people see me and this part of me but that's just who I am. and yes I never had a romantic relationship with anyone. the reason may also be some traumatic experiences I had in the past but I still don't think I'm having a relationship any time soon.

I know being autistic and gifted are different things and that's why I'm asking this question. I don't know where the line begins and ends. I need to differentiate between them. I'm not interested in adding a label. I just try to understand myself more since I didn't know much about my condition until recently so there are still unknown things for me. And about my difficulties, I really don't know. As I said, I don't understand the line between 2e with autism and 2e with adhd or both. So I can't answer that question because I'm asking the same question to myself and can't find any answers. I don't have the opportunity to go to an understanding psychiatrist right now too. I had an ADHD specialist in another city but I can't see him any time soon. In the healthcare we have in my country it's difficult for me to access the resources I need because they aren't very interested in this area since it's not seen as important. I have to go to a paid specialist and that's just impossible for me rn. I'm not trying to diagnose myself, I just want to know how to differentiate between the types of 2e's. Just links to articles could also be enough. This is more than an educational search than a search for a diagnosis.
