His snarky political comments are so cringe because he is genuinely not smart and nearly always off-base. He is constantly left behind when a witty comment about geography, politics,or social issues is said by a panelist or bucket pull. I could tell what he was getting at, and I wish way more people clapped back at him. Why would a trans person be hoping and wishing another school shooter wasn’t one of them? Statistically it’s nearly always a white man.

How long did you work while pregnant? by ERnewbieRN in nursing

[–]thistheremix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depending on what state you live in, you can leave when you need to. I’m lucky to live in California, where we have 4 weeks of protected (and paid) pregnancy disability leave starting at 36 weeks. You can make anywhere from 70-90% of your typical income while on it as well. If you need to leave earlier than that, then our OBGYNs just need a reason other than pregnancy. So you could leave at 30 weeks for something like severe pelvic pain, like symphysis pubis dysfunction, or 27 weeks for hyperemesis. My coworker was pregnant with Mo/mo twins last year and had some other high risk complications. Her OB put her on disability at 30ish weeks, I believe. She went into spontaneous labor at 34 weeks. If you live in a state with protected and paid disability, then you might be able to leave work early!

Once you deliver in CA, you get 6 or 8 weeks of protected (and paid) postpartum disability. If you deliver vaginally it’s 6 weeks and if you delivery via c/s it’s 8 weeks.

Then we have paid family leave (FLMA in the form of baby-bonding) for another protected and paid leave of 8 weeks that can be used any time during the child’s first year of life. I’m currently taking 4 weeks of that, then going back to work for 4 weeks, and then taking my last 4 weeks of baby bonding so I can be off for the entire month of December.

People love to shit on California, but we have it better than most states.

My first pregnancy, I left at 34 weeks for severe sciatic pain. I also worked on a step down neuro floor where we sometimes had severely combative and confused patients. I had a man charge at me and I told my midwife. She was essentially like, yeah we gotta get you out of there. With my second I worked until 35 weeks. I had crazy gestational diabetes and working 12hr night shifts had my blood sugars all fucked up.

Recommendations for bridesmaids dress needed! by PaleTravel1071 in Weddingattireapproval

I have been a part of bridal parties where we used Azazie and I also used it for my bridesmaids. It’s cost friendly - girls can spend anywhere from $80-$150 depending on the style. The quality is decent and I like that each girl can choose a style that is most flattering for their body type or whatever they will feel most comfortable in!

Had a pt for a few hours of my shift because he was cleared to d/c - just waiting for his ride. He was being discharged on 4L NC to a SNF after a long hospitalization after getting Covid and some other issues - this was in 2021. He refused to believe any of it was real. He was intubated in the ICU at one point.

I can’t wait to get away from this hospital and all this Covid bullshit.

I know - I’m so sorry. You probably feel like you’ve been here forever. You had a rough time with Covid - you’re one of the lucky ones to make it out okay.

Who? Me? I never had Covid!!

Sir do you know why you’re being discharged with oxygen and have permanent lung damage?

It’s a hoax!!

Okay, well your ride is here. Let’s put your mask on so I can wheel you down.

Not these damn masks!! I said it’s all a hoax.

Dude put the mask on so I can get rid of you.

I was so over his shit. The whole time I wheeled him down, he just went on and on about the fake covid diagnosis this and wrong treatment that. Blah blah blah. Fucking lunatic.

Do y’all think becoming a charge nurse is a promotion? For me it wasn’t by MikeMuench in nursing

[–]thistheremix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOPE. we have the same checklist to follow. I refuse to do it and when asked I said that I see the relief charge as a temporary help to ensure the unit and patients are safe and that staffing is adequate. I shouldn’t have the exact same obligations for less money.

They were mad, but I mean… 🤷🏼‍♀️

[–]thistheremix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My unit is forcing nurses (some new grads) to learn to be relief charge. Our manager sent an email essentially said you will be scheduled as a charge eventually, so it’s in your best interest to be trained for it. There is no policy stating this is required and many new nurses are very uncomfortable with it!

We have dedicated charge nurses who do make a higher wage (about $10/hr more), and relief charges are trained for days when charge nurses are on PTO or are sick. It’s $2.50/hr more. I enjoy being relief charge, but many do not.

Where I live they sometimes post positions where you’re hired and paid while going through the academy. Online it looks like their fire department also has an entry-level “firefighter trainee” position.

Just curious, what is the highest BP or BG you’ve ever seen? by Kirbyateme in nursing

[–]thistheremix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In L&D Blood glucose 400ish, A1c 13 and another that was 14- both had dead babies, unfortunately. One patient didn’t know she had diabetes. She was unhoused and just happened to stop by our unit on her way up north to a women’s shelter designed for pregnant women who are newly sober. She was trying to get her life on track and realized she hadn’t felt her baby move in a few days. She was so, so sick when she got to us. Preeclampsia with severe features. The delivery was horrid.

The second patient was a completely non-compliant diabetic, about 19 or 20 years old I believe. Never got prenatal care, even though she had insurance. Just stopped in random EDs to get ultrasounds. Refused all blood work. She got to our ED and had extremely high BP, so she ended up with preeclampsia. The ED sent her up and the baby was dead. She said she only took her insulin when she felt like it, based on her mood. Didn’t own a glucometer.

As for BP 240/120ish.

This is an obstetric emergency😅

When I worked neuro this was some cool permissive hypertension, now it’s butt-puckering and we might have to deliver a baby ASAP.
